A co-worker at work wants to trade me a Springfield M1A Socom for my 1911 Loaded black stainless. Plus I have to add 500 dollars. I'm torn it is currently my only handgun and I love the 1911, but always wanted a M1A. Any opinions?

Hard to make a call on this for YOU. You have to be practical about this. It you going to get a CCL anytime in the near future and would you cc the 1911. OR would a smaller commander or LT commander be more practical. Whats the draw of the socom to you that of a Mossberg mvp patrol in 308 for almost the cash amount you would have to throw in to get the socom. Use regular ar10 mags too

This is all your call. I am not that attached to ether. Guess you have to decide if your attached to your 1911.

Depends on what a "Mall Ninja" salary is like. It may be easier to cough up $500 now for what you want than it is to pay full value for a M1a Socom at a later date. I'd bet he would settle for $400.

The only way I could afford my Scar 17 was to trade a couple of lower priced guns as I seriously doubt I could save or even justify $2700 for the rifle..(FDE of course!)

I would pass on the SOCOM as I think it's the worst of Springfield's M1A line. It uses a finicky proprietary gas system and the sights are pretty coarse. If it was a M1A scout squad on offer, I would take the trade.

Personally, I would pass on the SOCOM. If it were a standard length, or even the scout model, I would be seriously considering the offer.
