I will be motoring thru CA, don't wish to run afoul of their labyrinthine laws.
1) In the survival kit in the trunk I have a Glock military knife. Locked in the trunk in another container does this fall under the purview of Sec.12020as a concealed dirk or dagger?
2) Any handguns will also be in the trunk. If the gun is empty is a speedloader conatining ammo illegal in a separate container, like a zippered gun case?
Thanks.

1) No.
2) No. Keep handguns unloaded and secured in a lock container while driving. Ammo can be loaded in speedloaders/magazines. Just keep them seperate from the firearms.

Quiet's right.

More specifically, that applies to fixed-bladed knives concealed on your person. In a bag or briefcase you are carrying counts as on your person; carried in the car does not.

Sometimes having the ammo in a magazine or speedloader or speedstrip runs you afoul of the rules as well. "They" don't want you to easily or quickly be able to bring a firearm to the ready postion, so if the ammo is in a speedstrip then this comes under that general guideline and argument.

You'll have bigger concerns about fruit, plants, vegetables that you might have in your vehicle than you probably will about a locked/cased firearm in your trunk.

But if it's a huge concern then there are routes that completely avoid California depending upon where you're going to and coming from.

If you are just driving through california, also realise that FOPA might also apply, which would make your quandry much easier. Just keep ammo and gun seperate, locked in trunk and you should be okay.

That's all fine.

The only truly prohibited knives are automatics, butterflies, and a few like that...

Main issue with guns is that you may save yourself a LOT of trouble if you don't bring anything that's not cali-legal. You may be able to w/ FOPA (or whatever it is called) but it's a pain. That means no threaded barrels on semi-autos. 10rd mags max. Be careful with semi-auto long-guns with scary features like pistol grips -- they can get you into trouble quick. That doesn't mean it must be california approved or anything but if you bring in an AR-15 with a stack of 30rd mags you'd better have it locked and have hotel reservations in Oregon or the like. Even then you might get zapped.

We will be visiting loved ones in CA and OR, thus can't avoid it.

Won't be taking any mags over 10 rds, scary rifles, or agricultural products. The handguns aren't CA sale approved, but they're not for sale.

The Hemet and San Diego areas in CA. We will also be visiting friends in OR.
There are areas of CA I am very fond of. I lived there for the first 45 years of my life- too bad the place has been turned into a socialist country. I can not stand to live in a place where I have to beg the govt to be "allowed" to exercise the rights of a Free American. WA isn't perfect, but I can't afford a machine gun anyway and a CHL is easy to get for an honest person. I am expecting my UT permit soon. Ca is not a somewhere I visit often, so the UT permit should cover most of the places I would expect to go.
