Over the week of July 4th the spouse and I will be driving through Nevada, Idaho, and Montana.

I didn't have time to get my CCW before the trip - :( - so I will either be "transporting" or doing open carry.

So, anyone out there (Biker?) have some hints for me on the drive up?

We'll be spending the week in Bonners Ferry (got friends), and I hope to visit their range for a day.

Thinking of taking a pistol or two and a carbine or two.

Oh, and just to keep it interesting, the return leg will also include 120 miles of South-East Oregon highway.

Thanks, guys.

Yeah, sorry

Like I said, there wasn't time to complete the CCW before the trip.

So, given that I don't have CCW available, what local wisdom can you offer?

Open carry works just fine in Montana. Go to packing.org and see where you can't carry. Also you can have the gun in your car, anywhere in the car. If not carrying concealed, I will have my gun in plain sight while driving. Usually resting on the console.

Montana doesn't have a lot of laws about open carry, they mainly just cover concealed weapons here.

Are you getting anywhere near Glacier National Park?

I dunno about the Idaho law, but in Montana you can CCW without a permit outside city limits OR hunting, fishing, ranching, logging, "other outdoor activity" etc.

I dunno if hiking in a city park qualifies... ;)
