I had to send a revolver back to S&W for repair (barrel not correctly indexed).

Has anybody had any recent experience with S&W repair so that you could give me a turn-around time estimate? Are we looking at days, weeks or months?

I recently had a warranty repair done on a Colt and had it back in ONE WEEK.

Thanks for any input.

I had to have a revolver reframed not to long ago. It took about 8 days from the drop off to return delivery. Since the gun came back with a new serial number, it needed to be transferred through an FFL, which was a real hassle for me. The good thing is, the work was done quickly and correctly. I also got phone calls through out the while process:

- I was called when the gun was received
- I was called once the gun smiths had diagnosed the issue
- I was called when the gun was shipped back
- after receiving the gun, I was called to make sure everything worked out and I was satisfied.

S&W also refunded my $20 transfer fee. I wish I could remember the name of the CS guy I dealt with. He was by far the best CS rep I've ever had to work with. I made sure to write a letter to the VP of customer service telling how pleased I was with the service and the rep.

skt239, you must be a paying customer. I called S&W after a month of hearing nothing just to make sure FedEx hadn't delivered it to Smurf & Westsuit by mistake. I guess as long as they do the recall right I'll be happy in the end.

You did not have a package tracking number?

Isn't that how we all end up with products by paying? If you figured out a way around paying for stuff that does not involve stealing, please fill me in :)

When I initially called I asked to speak with a manager straight away. I very politely explained to him that I was not happy with the issues I was having. I said he would personally see to it everything was taken care of and it seems he did. I learned along time ago to go straight to the manager when I have an issue.

I meant paying for having the gun serviced, not paying for the gun. Service for a recall is customarily no-charge.

I see. It was not a factory recall but rather a cracked frame and hammer. I'd only had the revolver for a couple of days before I discovered the problem.

I just sent them a 586 today for the same recall and for a few repairs so I will be a paying customer on this one :)

I did inquire as to the fate of my 686 and was told they were waiting on parts and that it should be done shortly.
