I know diddly squat about revolvers but a shop here has a 6" barrell GP100 marked at $395. I'm diggin' this gun & wondered whether or not that's a decent price. Also... is there anything in particular I should check when looking it over?

I have not shot one yet, but do plan to in the near future so i cant say much for the firearm itself. I can say that Ruger has one of the best warranty's around, and the price is one of the lowest I have seen around. If i had the extra 400 and walked into that store I would buy it.

**Edit**
Just noticed the "Used" part. If it is in almost perfect condition I would still probably buy it, but you might be able to find the same used gun for cheaper. Not an amazing deal but still a good price for a Ruger and a fun gun no doubt.

thats a good price and a great gun. My gun shop has one with my name on it, new for $539. I would check for excessive wear and make sure the rifling is in good shape and if so get it man. The guy at my shop said they are every bit as beefy as the S&Ws at less cost.

Read the "sticky" post at the topo of this forum, fourth one down, to see how to check out a revolver. That price would be OK around here.

Is it blued or stainless? If blued I'd say the price is on the high end of "within range." I'd try to get them down to $370-75.
If Stainless it's more solidly within the range, but still not a super deal.

Either way, it's an unkillable tank of a gun that will outlive you, your children, their children, etc... 5 generations down, they'll be shooting full load magnums out of that sucker.

If it's stainless........

............get it! Do the revolver check as someone above stated. My buddy has a four inch. We shoot together; his GP, my 686. Both are good. And that's a good price these days!

That would be about $30-40 cheaper than going rate around here (W. NC) for a solid used GP-100. Great guns. I'd take the GP over a new S&W (with lock) any day.

They used to be cheaper, but I'd buy it.

It's one of the great revolvers, and impossible to wear it out-built like a dump truck.
Check the cylinder lockup , and I doubt you will find any problems with it. I have owned several Ruger DA revolvers and never had a bad one...

Hope you enjoy it.

To be honest, a GP100 in stainless, if in really nice condition can go for almost whatever retail is in your area. That is a good price on a GP-100 if it's nice.

Just bought a GP100 4 inch Stainless steel for $400.00. The revolver was little used. The price you stated is a fair price for a stainless steel version. A blued version is worth about $50.00 less. The GP100 is in my opinion the strongest medium built revolver in production today. Its reliable and in most cases has a decent double action trigger. Do a good revolver check-out before you buy it. I would doubt that the revolver is worn out because I have never seen a GP100 worn out! And that includes many I have seen at ranges as rentals. They are that strong. You can't go wrong.

Good luck,
roaddog28,

I thought it was a bit high but from all the others saying it is a good deal maybe I'm wrong. My brother bought a SS the other day for $350 that you hav to look hard to see it was shoot & I thought that was a little high.

I seen one a month ago advertised for $399 that I think was new.

It all depends on the condition. If you follow the sticky on how to check out revolvers and are satisfied it pasts the test, snap up this gun. If it's blued, though, you should try to talk them down a bit.

BTW, if you don't know much about revolvers (per your post), you should decide whether this is the gun you want, irrespective of price. We're all revolver lovers here. I personally prefer single actions and the Ruger Blackhawk reigns supreme there.
