using a 25 apc breach plug and a TC Encor.

I just receved my new tc 209x50 ML barrel and read about using a breach plug that uses a 25apc or a 22hornet case and a sm rifle primer insead of a 209 primer. Is there anyone that uses this combo in there ML and what have you forund. Thanks.

I switched to .25 ACP pistol casings with small pistol primers about 2 years ago. It was a good move at the time and eliminated the fliers I had been experiencing. I was using 110 grains of 777 loose powder 250 gr Hornady SST sabots and held 1” groups out to 100 yards without any problems.

I recently began using Blackhorn 209 powder and as a result changed back to standard Winchester W209 shotgun primers. I have learned that the BH209 requires a hot ignition source and I didn't think the small pistol primers would do the job (although I have yet to try them with BH209).

As time allows I will switch my breech plug back to the .25 ACP and try them with the Blackhorn 209.

I would also suggest you give Blackhorn 209 a try. No more water clean-up or cleaning the barrel between shots.

I called Blackhorn 209 and they recomend useing a 209 primer. Depending the elements on witch primer Federal 209A and Remington SST209 primers for the milder climets and CCI 209M for the colder ones. As for using the 25 apc and sm Pistol or rifle primers its not recomended. So im looking for a dealer in my area.

I have not tried BH209 but.....I have read on other forums that it does indeed perform well, but 1) it is more expensive, by about 50%, 2) can be hard to find, and 3) do not be fooled that you do not need to clean the rifle at the end of the day. I read about one poor guy that had to replace an Encore barrel after failing to clean his rifle for I believe 5 days. I have used BP, Pyrodex, and T7. Of the 3, I found T7 to shoot well, is affordable, readily available at a reasonable cost, and a breeze to clean.
