VA Tech shooting report released

The report by the Gov's VA Tech Review Panel was release earlier tonight.

We finally have a timeline of events. The shooting in Norris Hall lasted for approximately 11 minutes. Police arrived within 3 minutes but were unable to enter the building because the heavy, chained doors proved to be impossible to breach. They eventually found a side entrance leading into a machine shop and gained entry. Cho was dead within 1 minute of police entering the building.

Let the criticism begin...

Just goes to show you that even if the police are there when you need them, they're not magic supermen and sometimes still won't be able to help you out.

Havent read the report yet, but I am sure the cops did the absolute best job they could of done. Which is why people need to CCW. When SHTF, you don't have time to call 911, wait a few minutes, and hope your rear gets saved.

What's frustrating is that, after reading the time line, it appears that there was no real way to prevent Cho from obtaining weapons. He complied with the mandatory waiting periods, background checks and all the other inconveniences for a period of a couple of months. If someone is that determined and patient, it's hard to think of a way to stop them without monstrous infringements on the rights of others. Of course, that's what the antis will propose. Letting people carry weapons to protect themselves in the event the police can't reach them in time will be pooh-poohed as paranoia. Kleck's study will be ignored by the MSM. :barf:

What a crock. They spend pages outlining that the stupid 4473 and Virginia's form did NOTHING to stop this purchase, and then recommend that they institute it for ALL transfers. How stupid can these people be?

It can't be done. To quote Ben Franklin, “He who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserves neither.” While there certainly needs to be a balance between the two to ensure an orderly society, I would prefer to err towards liberty.

I haven't read the full report, but the article on foxnews carries this snippet:

"There does not seem to be a plausible scenario of a university response to the double homicide that could have prevented the tragedy of considerable magnitude on April 16," the report said. "Cho had started on a mission of fulfilling a fantasy of revenge."

Very telling. "We cannot protect you from a rampaging psychopath bent on revenge". "But we won't let you have the means to protect yourself either"

well, I read the report, certainly has an anti -gun, Anti-self defence slant to it.

First they say that he would have been just as deadly with 10 rounders as he was with 15, but then in the conclusion state the the 15 rounders were a factor in his being able to kill so many people.

They further go in to to make a point that since most kids drink while in school, binge drinking at that, that allowing people to be armed would result in more gun violence.

They even tossed in an uneeded paragraph about "gunshow loophole." Nowhere in thier reports on the facts has Cho been to a gun show much less buy anything there.

I also love the parts that indicate Cho bought 15 round G19 mags from the local Wal-Mart. Last I checked, no such thing at mine.

The kicker was the part about interviewing students who said they would be in fear is they know another student or a teacher was armed. Well, did they bother to ask the kids who suvived by playing dead which they would fear more, a nut case with a gun or a trained person willing to defend against the same nut with a gun.

While I found the facts interesting, they could have left out the parts that looked to have been composed directly from the Brady Bunch.

... students who said they would be in fear if they know another student or a teacher was armed.

The should have added 2 parts to this question. Both parts would start with the wording above, but...

The first variation would end with "during normal circumstances"

The second variation would end with "while an insane classmate was shooting people in your classroom"

I Won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just call me Nostradamus: Months ago I made the following prediction in a previous thread on the outcome of the panel

Predictions

When the Anti-gun Virginia Attorney General does issue his new Opinion lets see if he includes the following case law which debunks his previous Opinion:

“When the legislature delegates authority to an administrative agency to promulgate regulations, those regulations must neither exceed the scope of the authority delegated nor be inconsistent with it. Furthermore, "delegations of legislative power are valid only if they establish specific policies and fix definite standards to guide the official, agency, or board in the exercise of the power. Delegations of legislative power which lack such policies and standards are unconstitutional and void. For example, language in an enabling statute which provides merely "that the regulations be designed to protect and promote the safety and health of employees" is insufficient.” Avalon Assisted Living Facilities, Inc. v. Zager, 39 Va. App. 484, 574 S.E.2d 298 (2002).

All Public Colleges in Virginia have only been given the authority to regulate parking.

I was just listening to the fill-in host for Rush Limbaugh and there was a caller that said his daughter was killed at VT. He then continued with the standard anti-gun talking points. I feel sorry for his lose and his inability to recognize that responsible armed citizens are not part of the gun violence problem.
