I have a 4 screw (screw on the trigger guard) S&W M-28 Highway Patrolman.
No DASH on the model number. Six inch...at about 95% serial # S203XXX

I have had this sitting around for awhile as a safe queen and have been thinking about selling it off to pay for a rifle project.

Has anyone sold or bought and old S&W N frame lately??? Our Alaska market is somewhat odd.

Well, I can tell you that with an S prefix, and that serial number, the gun was manufactured sometime between 1959 and 1960. I would say it's likely that it was produced in 1960, since the '60-'61 serial range starts at S206xxx.

If I were you, I'd go over to the smith and wesson forum to post pics, along with the info you gave here, and ask what one would sell for. I would guess $400-$475 range, but I'm no expert.

Thanks for the info.... I never shoot this one and keep thinking about trading it for a rifle, my oldest daughter needs one.

The guy I got it from a few years ago took off the original small grips and put on the oversized ones. What a bozo...

What color is the bluing? My S serial M-28 had the carbonia blueing which makes for a gorgeous finish. My N serial is the the standard flat blue-black.

I love my 28-2, it is excellent and deserves a factory refinishing. It is the handgun I am most accurate with, and has been since the very first cylinder I fired through it. If it were me I would try to find any way to hold on to it, or if you do sell it, please don't sell it to some fool, and preferably keep it in the THR family.

I think $400.00 is a good ballpark fiqure based on the picture.
The 4 inch Model 28's generally sell quicker than those with 6 inch barrels. S&W forum is an excellent place to list it for sale. A lot of good people there!
