Vector Arms-AK's!

Looks like a sweet deal. But what's to stop you from buying a $300 sar-1 and slapping a side or under folder on there and being done for under $400?

I have thought about them too (When I get another job and some $ saved).
What recievers are they built on?
Have you got one? How many rounds through it?
Thanks.

I have had a sar-1 for years and I don't particulary like it. It is reliable and decently accurate but it just seems too cheaply made. It has the canted front sight and may be my least favortie long arm. I have been considering getting a $500+ AK. I love the design just not owning the cheapest one possible.

Best custom made AK's on the market. Pricey, but top quality.

You could do that with some of the side folders for even less, such as the Romanian for about $40.

Underfolders and some of the newer side folders require receiver modifications that would run $100+, would probably require a refinish, and still doesn't include the price of the folding stock.

It is good to see these being offered once again. You know, between the 1989 import ban and the 1994 AWB, I don't recall seeing many, actually any, new 922r compliant AK folders offered.

If I ever get enough extra coin to actually afford both another AK kit and enough Ramen noodles to survive on I'm building a damn underfolder AK assuming any kits are still available at the time... I want one BAD.

A seller had one of these at a recent gun show here, I spent some time looking it over while a friend was trying to make a deal on a rifle at an adjoining table. They appear to be very nicely made - fit and finish looked much better than the couple of SAR's I've seen.

My SAR can get about 7" groups at that range if I'm patient. :) There is every reason to believe that the Vector ones would do better. I'm a bit worried about the sidefolder they have with the slant brake and the stock made of a tiny triangular piece of sheet metal... :uhoh:

I'm happy with my SAR. Their V-53s with collapsible stocks look interesting though... ;)

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Vector the former Hesse Arms? Or is it Vulcan?

Hesse's guns were so legendary bad that sales took a deep six and they had to rename the company to have any hope of reestablishing themselves in the marketplace.

I would hope that discriminating gun buyers would remember that you get what you pay for and if a deal seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Vectors is a good company.

I ordered a semi-auto Uzi from Vector (mailed payment and FFL about 11 days ago), and on the Uzi forum they (Vector) have an excellent reputation for both their product and customer service. I'll let you'll know how the Uzi is when I receive it.

No Vector Arms is not Hesse! Never was! Hesse is now called Vulcan Armament!

Vector is the company that bought all of the old Group Industries registered, but unfinished, UZI receivers years ago. They then finished them, to a condition reportedly better than IMI, and sold them for $3000 each. That's pretty dang cheap for a fully transferable UZI.

Vector is now branching out to US-made HK33 clones and other stuff. All of it is reportedly very good.

Just received my Vector Arms semi-auto Uzi with the folding stock and 16" barrel. It seems very well made. I won't get a chance to shoot it for a few days, but I post a range report after I do if anyone's interested. So far, I'm very impressed with Vector.:D

Nero, if ya don't my asking, where did you find the vector with a folder? I've seen plenty of vector uzi's in the shotgun news but they are all fixed stocks.

I think these are the only guys who are selling underfolders of ANY kind right now. I think i am going to have to pick one up.

It's been my experience, underfold stocks for the AK series are a bad idea. The stock is compact, but it doesn't allow a good stock weld and the lock is not as positive as it should be. A side folder, like the Galil or SAKO is much better. Most of the ones I have seen were very loose. I wouldn't want to use one at more than 50 meters.

Who failed to buy the M72S when he had the chance. :(

I most certainly do not want one for any kind of "practicle" purpose. I want one because its a damn cool looking rifle that was impossible to find for the last ten years.

I will not however that both the Polish army and segments of the new Iraqi National guard have been using underfolders to good effect as we speak. I believe that the Poles have made the underfolder their standard issue infantry rifle. This doesnt necessarily mean its a GOOD idea. But, it does indicate that it isnt completely out of left field.
