Do I hate Walmart?
Yes

Wal-Mart has been pretty successful at destroying any competing small business in the area that would pay these people a decent living wage.

This is so funny. Small companies/mom and pop stores pay a decent, living wage? Yeah, ok. They usually hire family.... sisters kid, wife's uncle, etc. Many, if not most of the time they pay off the books and less than minimum wage. They are family run businesses so they can feed their families. Yes, they are warm, friendly and helpful. Good ole Fred and Ethyl's family business has been there since the war ended in the '40s. Nice people but they surely don't employ 200 people and pay minimum wage. Yes, many small companies have made it big and have expanded but so many here romanticize the old mom & pop stores because they feel the warm and fuzzies from when they were kids 50 years ago. Today all the small stores are run by immigrants who live there 24/7 and all the employees are immediate family who don't get paid but contribute to the household.
