Weatherby and Glock?

What do they have in common? Not much! Except I have never owned a gun made by either company. Glocks I don't like and probably will never own. Weatherby on the other hand is a maker that just hasn't been purchased by me. No particular reason, just hasn't happened. Who knows, maybe someday I'll buy a Weatherby rifle.

I have never owned a Perazzi Shotgun, but I also don't consider that a major gun company. I have never owned a Henry Rifle, I am not sure theat Henry qualifies as a major.

What major gun makers have you never owned a gun from?

Ditto Weatherby--just got into rifles a couple years ago and my collection (more like accumulation) is less complete than my handgun collection.

Other major manufacturers:
HK--probably will never own unless I find a good deal on a P7
FN--will own in the future (at least a BHP)
Colt--will own

Weatherby never made a gun in their entire existence -so no, they aren't a maker of any sorts. They are a marketing company, just like Browning.

As to Perazzi, they ARE a major player when it comes to Olympic and International shooting sports, and next on my list of hopeful acquisitions, even if used

Do not have any Weatherby or Browning (dad had an A5, said it was a hunk of junk) or HK or SIG or Beretta etc. etc.

I have owned two Weatherbys. One in .257 Wby mag that I had to sell to make rent many years ago when I was unemployed and currently one in .300 Wby Mag. I really love them but now they are being made in Japan instead of the US. I also have the pleasure of owning a Beretta USA 92F, a Belgium Browning Superposed (wonderful shotgun), a Colt King Cobra and a Benelli Supernova.

CelticArmory: FYI all Weatherby rifles have been made in the USA for the past several years at least. I just purchased a Mark V in 300 Wby from their custom shop and it definetly was made here. Their semi auto and o/u shotguns, I believe, are still being made in Japan.

I really love them but now they are being made in Japan instead of the US.

The Weatherby Mark V 30-378 I recently purchased says right on the side of the barrel/receiver made in some town in California.

As to justifying buying it, I also purchased a Mosin in the same month so I figure the two average out to the price of any normal Remington, Winchester, etcetera.

I love Weatherby's as for Glocks since there are so many who love them I won't tell ya what I think of them..LOL at least they keep the toy makers in business though.. Up here I carry a all weather .300 Weatherby mag for Elk set up with a Leupold 4-10X 50 its the perfect rifle for me..These all weathers they quit making..Which is kinda a shame as I feel they are one of the better USA made Weatherby's..I also have a 30-378 MkV deluxe which sits in the safe as they are over 2000.00 now..Yikes..And another MkV German in .257 WBY which is a great rifle for deer..

Anyway I love these all weathers..And love that MkV action!!

Actually their semi auto's are made in Italy, at least their upper line is..Their bolt actions .22s are made in Germany ..The first MkV's were made in Germany, then they were made in Japan, now the US ..The German ones will demand a premium if they are 95% or better.NO WEATHERBY"S were made In Southgate Cali..That was where Weatherby's import station was..If anyone here has one made in Cali I would love to see it as I am a Weatherby collector..I might offer ya a price you can not refuse..
Their Vanguard line is made by Howa..Which Howa for the money is not a bad rifle..No where near the MKV but never the less a brilliant rifle for the money..Here is a Howa I purchased awhile ago..Its a 22-250 Varmint with that Hogue stock..I prefer the Boyds stock btw..

Besides junky subpar manufacturers (Century, current day Sig), I also boycott any gun company that goes whoring after LE/MIL contracts at the expense of civilian sales (Colt, Cheytac), or are not 2A absolutists (Ruger).

I LOVE me some Weatherby's. grew up with two.. a 22-250 and I believe a 308.
The nicest looking wood and finish I've ever seen, hands down. One day when I finish school etc, I'm going to invest in a US made Mark V with real wood. (The turn to most manufacturers going with a majority synthetic line is rather unappealing to me)

Right now my collection only consists of..
Marlin 60SS (Excellent gun)
Winchester (67 model)
SAIGA IZ-132
Mossberg 500A

Other than that, had a Remington 22-250, and Ruger MKII.

So.. haven't OWNED any other brands.

The Weatherby Vanguard, their less-expensive model, is made by Howa in Japan and has been for some years now. It is a well-built rifle IMO, comparable with the Remington 700. Weatherby has a history of farming out production to foreign companies, like Sako and J.P. Sauer. Not exactly low-quality companies, those.

The Weatherby Mark V, on the other hand, is made in the US. It's my understanding that their higher-end rifles and custom rifles have always been made in the US.

In addition to what everyone else just stated, I thought old man Weatherby was a medical doctor or dentist and just started making rifles out of his own shop in his free time. Regardless, the MarkV action (designed by Roy Weatherby) is still recognized as being one of the strongest and for that, deserves some credit.

I agree with the H&K bashers. Maybe ten years ago when you could pick up a USP for 650 bucks but these days no thanks. They seem to really castrate their civilian line of rifles and carbines too. Have also heard negative things about their CS.

I have never owned a Weatherby, however the German and Japanese are both fantastic rifles.

I don't really care what name is stamped on the gun or where it is made as long it is of good quality and fits my requirements. Some manufacturers consitently seem to meet my needs though. CZ, HK, and Smith come to mind.
