Hello all rifleman out there. I need advice. I was given a Weatherby Vanguard in 25-06. Weapon comes with a weaver 3x9 scope. It is an older model with a nice wood stock. My problem is I don't shoot the 25-06. And I have no room in the safe for it. I'm not up on Weatherby weapons. Should I keep it or try and sell it?
I think the 25-06 is a great caliber. I just have no place for it in my lineup. The weapon has no sentimental value. It was a gift for helping move a friend. So should I hang on to it and just stash it away, or try and sell it. I also was given 100 rounds of Federal Premium ammo with it. So its not like I will have to buy ammo if I keep it.
Your input would be greatly accepted.

Do you hunt? Because you just got the perfect antelope rifle...I don't understand what you mean by there's no room in your line up. If you don't have a 25-06, now you have an excellent one with all the ammo you'll need for a while... I don't see the problem with keeping it, myself.

Hunt all game available in AZ,CO and KS. I have a 270 for Antelope and Mule Deer, MT Lion. I use my 30-06 for Elk and Black Bear. I use my 257 Roberts for all varmint hunting and Javelina and Whitetail hunts in KS. As I said. I don't need the 25-06. No place for it. I was thinking I would sell the whole set up for $350.00. I believe that would be fair.
I just don't really need another rifle. I have two 30-30s, 44 mag rifle, 357 mag rifle and a 444 Marlin. And then add in six 22s to the mix. Rifles are not something I need.

If you don't need or want it, sell it and use the money for something you do want.

:what:

I just don't understand...

I'm kidding of course. I love collecting rifles even I don't shoot them very often. Sometimes I just take them out to clean and fondle.

Of course if you think cash is better than having the rifle, you have an answer.

The vanguard is a HOWA barreled action. They always were a very accurate rifle, tend to be as good or better shooter many than the real weatherby rifles, If wood in considered nice it may be worth more then 350 but that would move it quickly. Sounds like you may have others with little attachment too. Maybe time for a gun space sale !! ha.

Sweet deal... very nice. My problem is I seem to buy the toys at the expense of doing the hunts...
I have a .257 Roberts as well, yet I've always had a 25-06 bug (40 years?) and it's one of the few truly custom rifles I have had done up for me...(as is the .257).
I believe if you listed it for sale here on the site (in the appropriate section) it would sell very quickly. I'd be quite interested in it myself...(damn!!)

Sell it. A good enough rifle, but nothing special. Same with the 25-06 chambering. I don't keep guns I don't use. Pay for a hunt with the funds.

Since you have the ammo, at least shoot it first. You may find yourself falling in like with it. At the price you're considering giving it away, uh, selling it for, the ammunition would not be a deal maker.

My 25-06 has become my go to whitetail rifle. 117 grain Sierra GameKings make for a " bang flop " round on whitetails , and I'm sure the result would be the same on antelope and Muledeer.

It is a nice flat shooting round and can also be loaded with Barnes TSX 100 grainers for over 3000 fps and a very deadly little bullet.

I agree with the others for the price your considering shoot it first. You might like it and if not ...... We'll it should not last long at that price. ;)

Pack it safely away, and come Christmas, wrap that bad-boy up, ammo in a separately wrapped gift box, and invite your friend over for Christmas dinner. After Christmas dinner, present your friend with two gift-wrapped packages. Then, set back with a camera, and take a photo of him, opening "the" gift-of-a-lifetime, from one Hades of a good friend.

You asked; I answered. That is exactly what I would do. That your friend paid you in a firearm implies he's hurting for cash. So, rather than take his obvious last possessions, donate that help moving. Sometimes we have to step-up and do what's right. Shame-on-you if you keep that rifle and ammo.

JMHO,

Geno

My only hunting rifle is the .25 06 . I love the accuracy with handloads consisting of 100 gr Nosler BT.

Geno:

My friend has plenty of cash. And as for guns. He has 3 gun safes that hold about 30 firearms each. He asked if I'd help him move. I said sure. I wasn't expecting a thing for the help. Just helping a friend. He surprised me with the weapon when we were finished, and having a cool drink on his patio.
So it wasn't because he was lacking any thing.

Can't give you advice on whether to sell or keep, only you can answer that. I have a Vanguard Sub MOA model in .25-06 in a very nice synthetic stock. The trigger was terrible but I dropped a Timney in it and now it's great. If you're selling, I'll pass along that I think I paid $600 retail in a gun shop in Kansas two years ago for mine.

Guess I am to new to list the weapon. They have a block on new members posting weapons for sale. That sucks!!!!!!
:cuss:
My fellow shooters. Pass the word for me. I would appreciate it. If that is ok as a member to do?
Don't want to get in trouble or anyone else.

I suspect someone here will buy it soon. I just got a Vanguard in .243 about a month ago or I'd buy it. If you don't have any luck moving it in a couple of weeks, PM and I'll have the cash. Would make a perfect antelope rifle.
