This thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=231168 has convinced me that my next hand gun purchase will be chambered in 10mm.

I'd considered the 10mm in the past but settled on .40S&W because of the cost of 10mm ammo. Now I've been reloading for 3 years and ammo cost isn't an issue.

Soooo....

Any suggestions? (Cost isn't an issue. A gun lasts forever - ammo only for as long as it takes to shoot it.)
 
I'd buy a COLT DE

The COLT Delta Elite is the best 10mm ever made. Parts are easy to get, 1911 parts galore. They can be had in stainless. They will only get more valuable.

I also like the EAA Witness a lot, and would recommend them except for that EAA is a piece crap company. The topend Witnesses might be worth your time to look at.

10mm

Kimber and Springfield make them. I am a personal fan of the Dan Wesson. have a Razr and a Bobtail.
 
10MM

I agree about the choices already stated (Kimber, DW, Colt), don't forget about the Glock Model 20. I didn't know if you were looking for a 1911 style or any other suggestions. I've shot my friends G20 and it's pretty nice.

I've been looking at those and they look good. CZ picked up DW and I own 3 CZ firearms and would have no problems picking up a 4th.

I knew about the Glock 20. Too light in my opinion with the polymer frame for a full power 10mm. Explanation: I owned a Glock 22 for a couple of years - never could get used to it, funky grip angle, mushy trigger and the wieght made the .40S&W very snappy as opposed to my CZ-75B in .40S&W which is a joy to shoot.

IMO a 10mm needs the weight of an all metal gun.

I also went to the S&W web site looking for info on the 1076 and 1066 models. Tried a caliber search but nothing is listed for 10mm. Does S&W make any 10mm handguns anymore? If so how are they listed?

RE: Colt Delta Elite - very nice, very nice indeed. I'll take a real hard look and consider one but not being a huge fan of Colt, their pricing or their attitude towards the civilian market those opinions will probably prejudice my decision somewhat.

No, but there are many used 1006's, 1066's and 1076's on the market. They usually run between $400-$600 in decent condition.

As an aside, the S&W 10XX series are arguably the most robust 10mm auto's ever made. I love my 1006; it has swallowed even the most punishing handloads without a hiccup. They are accurate as well.

I also have a Kimber and an EAA witness in 10mm, both of which I'm quite fond. The Witness is a compact model and is my everyday CCW.
 
AMT Javelina, or Kimber's Raptor. It would be great if STI started to make 10mm 1911s. A GLOCK 20 is a good choice as well since it's a bit cheaper, more available, more accessorizable, and higher capacity.

Will you be using the 10mm for hunting, CCW, target-shooting, or just because it's so awesome? :D

Ive never had a problem with my G20. 15rd mags is also a plus.
 
Dont overlook the G20 based on your experiance with a G22. The G20 is a large frame double stack and handles even the hottest load from Double Tap with ease. (135 gr 1600 FPS).

I love mine.
 
I'm not a Glock fan. However, 15rds of 10mm in a 20 changed my mind! If you can deal with the Glock "issues" it's a great platform.

That being said, the Kimber Eclipse is a sweeeeeet pistol. I don't have enough rounds through mine to talk about it a lot. However, thus far it's been very accurate with only a few hi-cups from aftermarket mags. Lot of nice quality features on it out of the box.

I like the DW's and think they are also a very good buy if you want a metal gun and the price of the others is too much.

I'm not a Colt fan. Hard to find and often they want a quart of blood and $1000 for one. Just not that into them.

My only experience with Kimber (other than a bad one with my Son in Law's) is with the Kimber Ultra Tac 2 I own. Now that's one hell of a pistol; accurate as hell for a 3" bbl .45ACP. The only downside is the wierd take down method. I expected it to take down like a 1911 - NOT! Does the Eclipse model everyone has mentioned take down like a 1911 or like the Ultra Tac 2?
 
I am not a Kimber fan by any means. After dealing with a Royal II, Kimber is off the "to buy" list forever.
On the other hand, my G20's and G29 have been flawless.

The ammo I use for SD and CCW are
DT 165gr. @ 1400fps/ 718ft/lbs- Glock 20

The 10mm also makes an excellent hunting round.
On Thursday I took a GA 4 point at 32 yards using a G20 with 6" KKM barrel and 230gr WFNGC.
The rounds performance was excellent.

Recoil from the 10mm even with the 200gr,215, 230gr loads is if anything, nill

IMO- The G20 is the perfect 10mm platform, and the 10mm is the perfect pistol round.

I think all the Kimber 3" barreled pistols take down like that; the full-size 5" barreled pistols are just a little different from the GI-type 1911, as I think most of them have the full-length guide rod. Just a little different, but not much, only difference being that with the FLGR, you have to use a little wrench to push the plug down as you rotate the bushing with it. (Or am I telling you things you already know? :D ) I have a Kimber Tactical Ultra II as well...believe you me, I uttered a few choice words when I misplaced that little metal piece you stick through the guide rod as you break the pistol down. :evil: Someone told me a paper clip would be a good replacement for that, though.

Ahem. Back on topic. I love the 10mm; the only one I have so far is the Kimber Stainless Target II, but I really like it. So far the only ammo approaching full-power that gun has seen is the 175-grain Winchester Silvertips, but they handle them well. (As an aside, it'll be interesting to see how the Double Taps will sound when you shoot them under a metal roof, as they just got installed on the pistol range at the Golden Triangle Gun Club. :D) I'd like to get a DW sometime, as I've heard nothing but good things about them as well...
 
I agree with the 610 post above. Great combination for the round. 6 shots and quick reloads. More steel then I care to shake a fist at. Plenty of barrel to nurse the most out of the round. Yep, great combination.
 
G20 as mountain back-up

I recently purchased a G20 as a mountain/woods gun. I usually carry a 44 Mag, but the 15 round magazine X 3 mags = lots of firepower and about the same weight as my superblackhawk.

I have a G21 and G30, but I like the extra power of the 10mm. DoubleTap 200 gr Beartooth rounds with Hornady 200 XTP in a third magazine.

All depends on your available $$

If you got the bank then go with a 1911 style 10MM.

If your looking for a woods gun that you can holster and not worry about beatin it up then a G20 is the ticket. Easy on the wallet too at just under $500.

Another option is the S&W 10 series as well.

If you want a low priced 10MM then the Witness is the choice.
 
I am always amazed that my G29 shoots so softly for it's size and weight. I get more recoil when I shoot my S&W 442 Airweight Centennial .38 Special with 158-gr +Ps.

Perhaps it is the combination of the grip width and angle, plus the Pearce +0 mag extension. It's a sweet shooting pistol with some serious firepower and performance. I normally recover 180-gr Gold Dot bullets that measure over 1" in diameter. Not bad for a short barrelled pistol I can easily conceal. I can't get a .45ACP to do this from a 3.9" barrel......

I'm so pleased with this G29 that I may never feel a need to own another Glock.
 
A friend of mine and fellow THR member picked up the Witness 10mm. It shoots like a dream.
