I'm want to expand my reloading to include .223 Remington.

I am using a 6-position turret press. Brass is a mix of my once-fired LC XM193, Q3131, UMC and WWB. I plan to segregate out the NATO stuff and start reloading only the American commercial .223 cases first. (I will develop a good way to decap, trim and clean the primer pockets on the NATO stuff at a later time.) I also have a tumbler so I will be loading very clean brass.

Any advice on what brand die set to buy? Any other tools I should acquire?

Thanks!

I use Lee dies on a 4 hole turret press. The other die I have is the universal powder thru die which works for the .223 as well.

Have loaded several hundred (near 1,000 so far) without an issue. If your using 55gr FMJ's then give H-335 and CCI mag primers a go. I use that in LC brass and they are very accurate out of my 16" Oly.

Thanks.

I understand that my Lyman powder measure will not work with the Lee rifle dies. Correct?

Mag primers, huh? I didn't think that was in any book. What prompted you to try that combination?

I use regular primers (winchester and federal, mostly) with H-335 and it works fine. That's a spherical powder, it meters very consistent.

For military brass, the only extra step (first time) is to use a primer pocket swager die to move the primer crimp out of the way. And trim the brass if necessary (but that's even for non-military brass). LC brass seems like good stuff.

Buddy of mine has used CCI mag primers for years with H-335 and it burns consistent.

I started low and worked up with the CCI mags and they worked better than the Winchester WSR primers. Of the two, the CCI's gave me the best results. That's what I've stuck with.
