I know the 28/30 rifles are supposed to be .308 and the M-39s are listed as .310. Bullets available are .308,.311 and .312. Which to use if bore is actually .310?

I know Ruger barreled its mini-30 with a .308 barrel knowing everyone would use surplus .310 AK ammo.
I know the accuracy is bad and you have to wonder about pressure.

The AK bullets at 123grain .310 are too light for the 7.62x54r so whats the best answer?

No one seems to offer a .310 bullet for reloading.

Use a .311 bullet............

my M39 shoots minute of angle with Wolf 200 gr sp so I don't even think about reloading, for now......chris3

Just try a mix of ammo both surplus and commercial. Different Mosins tend to have different preferences. The actual "D" heavy ball the Finns used isn't available anymore, but you can still get the bullets and work up handloads. Esp. with the M39's you can't tell what will shine and what won't. Folks get too hung up on bore diameter. It's a factor, but only one. The best way is just to see what the rifle shoots well with and work with that.

Sierra, Hornady, and Speer I know for sure offer .310 bullets, they are used for the .303 British, 7.7 Japanese, and the 7.62 Rimmed Russian.

If it helps, all my M39s loved heavy grain loads like Chris said. Wolf 200gr soft points shoot incredibly well in them for me.

I have done as Cosmoline suggests. Experiment with as many loads as you can.

Both of my M39's prefer heavier loadings. Seems that the closer to 200gr, the better they do. For surplus inexpensive ammo though I've had alot of luck with Hungarian, both lead and steel core heavyball. Stocked up on that stuff.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I will try Sierra 180 pro hunter in .311. I have a supply of wolf and S&B and I think even some domestic 7.62x54 - I think winchester but its ball ammo and I like to blow up milk jugs. I like to work up some hand loads for my rifles and keep components on hand. It's pretty tough as I have 4 M-39s, one M44, one M38 and three 91/30s. I want to develop a good load for one of the M39s.
