What Country Makes The Best Firearms?

Well, I admit that I am a sucker for good firearms from anywhere. I particularly like Lugers and SIG's. I think that Berettas are very nice, and that HK's run like Swiss watches.

But, as far as the BEST firearms, well, let's see..........

Question 1: What single-action revolver from what company is probably the most copied and imitated handgun in the free world?
Hint: Does the word "Peacemaker" ring a bell?

Question 2: What semi-automatic handgun has been--or is being--copied in countries like Brazil, Argentina, and even China, and whose reputation is known worldwide as a fight stopper? Another hint: It sure ain't Glock.

Question 3. Name the lever action rifle so popular that it--and others like it--are known and classified by name alone? By the way, just who started Cowboy Action shooting anyway?

There are lots of good arms manufacturers out there. And no, we don't even have the oldest one--that distinction belongs to Beretta. But what other firearms company can equal the workmanship of a Smith and Wesson revolver, the versatility of the 1911 series, or the durability and timeless design of the Single Action Army?

In other countries, you might find one or two good barrel makers. In this country alone, how many do we have? And, how many of those have international reputations?

Yes, there are countries that turn out some outstanding firearms of one type or another. But, across the board for firearm excellence and workmanship, you just can't beat the good old USA.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Germany. I mean, do they even make a bad gun? Has Germany EVER made a bad gun? (And I'm not refering to the Interarms PPK here -- that was American made.)

Brazil *IS* the only country with a set of FN machinery still cranking out brand new FALs (under the Imbel brand name).

IMHO Germany makes the best hunting rifles (Krieghoff, Blaser, Heym, Sauer).

S&W and Ruger are the top dogs when you search fine revolvers.

The best pistols ever made are the Beretta 92 and the SIG 210.

Regarding military rifles I think that the SIG 550 is the champion. Although the M14, the AK-47 and the G3 come veeeery close.

The best guns are made in the USA
I would rate the swiss second

In Belgium, a 9mm is a "high power"
In the USA, a 44 mag is "adequate for deer"

On the whole, I think our guns handle and function better

Think about it

the European countries were settled and guns were secondary, recreational

We developed our guns as we settled our country. Our guns evolved out of necessity. From flintlock to percussion to cartridge to repeaters our guns advanced as we went from east to west.

The luger (a fine design) is in the realm of the collector and curious. A 1911 is still viable, and many police and miltary would still carry it if allowed to.

The Garand and M14 is still one of the finest semi or auto designs, as is Eugene Stoner's ar15,m16, ar10 family of designs

If you had to take an autoloader deer hunting, would you rather have a garand, or a ak or sks?

If you are talking about custom guns, I would have to say Germany. There are many old world type craftsmen there.

If you are talking about production guns, I think I would still pick Germany. SIGs, H&K, Walther.

If you are talking about best gun for the money, I think the Chechs have it.

Germany, Austria, Switzerland. (USA and Italy aren't bad, either.)
Firestar: Sigs are made in Switzerland, not Germany

Sigs are made in Switzerland, not Germany

Au contraire. I believe the majority of their handguns are German made. The P210 is Swiss, as is the P230/232; the 239 and PRO(?, IIRC) are US made. Their full and semi-auto rifles are also Swiss. I believe most of their bolt guns are German made. IOW, they make guns in 3 countries.

The SIG Saga Continues-

as MY P220 and P228 are plainly marked made in WEST GERMANY!

Why?

Because the Swiss export law's prohibit firearms
manufactuer'ers from shipping weapons designed for
combat and/or war, to other countries! :uhoh:

So with German manufactuer, you get the best of both
world's:

SWISS TECHNOLOGY and GERMAN CRAFTSMANSHIP
