Just got these 5 BP handguns today from a guy on another site. Just looking for some info and possible values.

1. Jukar Spain-.45 cal. Looks like it may be a kit gun

2. Corsair-Made in Italy--.44Cal double barrel. One of the hammers doesnt operate as it should.

3. CVA Single Shot. Can't find anything on this one. Has engraving on both sides. Says 4.S.M. on the side of the barrel. No caliber stated.

4. Says FIE on the top of the barrel....thats it. No caliber stated.

5. Looks like it says F?FIE made in Italy on the bottom of the handle. The bottom of the handle is scratched up which explains the ?. I looked up FIE and all I could find is that they were made in Spain and not Italy. It has beautiful engravings. On the cylinder, it is a battle scene, and the rest looks "floral" in nature.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The Jukars don't sell for much - I've seen them for around $100. That one does look like a kit gun.

This Corsair was listed several times - it seems overpriced.

I think the third one is a CVA "Prospector's Pistol". I've never owned one, never even handled one.

The last two are .36 caliber, imported by FIE = Firearms Import Export, out of FLA. They're not known for quality. I owned an 1849 .31 by FIE that had some neat engraving on it, and even though the gun was very rough, it was a good shooter. I think I paid less than $100 for it.

The top one is a colonial pistol and looks like its been a kit.. I have one in ,45 cal and enjoy it. I also load it with 20 grains, put in a wad put in some number 8 shot and a couple of wads. You can shoot it at a door and it covers the door from 15 feet.
There are double barrel pistols used by hunters riding elephants to fend off tiger attacks. Im not familiar with them
I believe that 3 is called a trappers model;
4 and five are copies of Colts 1851

The "4SM" probably reads "ASM" as in Armi San Marco. This is a "Tingle-style" single shot gun made for CVA. Usually .40 caliber. These pistols have a bit of a following among target shooters. Some have replacible barrels as well. Of the 4 this is the only one worth shooting. The others make good wall-hangers or curios.

Get some oil on the cylinder arbor of that first 1851! ! ! !

I'd say that they are all emminently shootable. That Tingle replica may be the most sought after by serious target shooters but the other's still have lots of grins to offer. You'll want to shoot fairly mild loads of powder out of the 1851's given their brass frames. No more than 20 grains by volume.

Thank for all the help guys. I couldn't ask for better info.

I plan on keeping only 1 and selling the rest. It will be a wall hanger only, as I don't have a handgun permit which is required in order to shoot them

You can still shoot them without a permit.....in a friendlier state. Depending on what part you are in, drive to PA and have some fun, just buy the powder, cap and balls when you arrive and shoot it all before going back.

You should research the gun laws where you live. Cap and ball guns aren't considered firearms under the Federal laws (unless you convert to cartridge). I live in MA, and you don't need a handgun permit to own a BP revolver but you do need an FID (Firearms ID) card to buy the powder. Owning these guns and hanging them on the wall might be fun, but shooting them is much better. It's kinda like watching a Bruins/Sabres series - winning is much more fun (I had to sneak that in somehow).

I've looked into it several times. You dont need a FID here in NY. They just take your info down before you purchase it.
