Rather than fight with people who've made up their mind, I spend my time working with those around me who are openminded. I present the image of a responsible gun owner to friends and family in the hopes that those who are anti or liberal in general will remember me when someone starts frothing about evil gunowners (it's already working). I do not hide my status as a gunowner from my neighbors (hard to do when I'm coming and going with gun cases, etc for the range or hunting trips), but I do not flaunt it either. I treat it like I treat my love of photography, or any other hobby. I want people to think of the quiet, respectable, family man when they think of a gunowner, not the black clad rambo at the local gunshop ranting about the UN.
I've gotten my dad into shooting and reloading. He's talking about getting his CCW, but time constraints are interfering with the training requirement. I've recently gotten my brother into shooting. He bought an AK, is looking at handguns for CCW, and has joined the NRA.
That, and I will raise my children (ok, only one right now) to be pro-gun, if not pro-freedom. They don't have to be gunnuts like dad, but they have to accept the freedom to bear arms as an absolute right.
