I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint that I plan on mounting a Vortex Razor HD on. What height would let the scope sit nice and low to the gun but still clear the objective lens? I was looking at TPS rings specifically.

@Outlaw Man, it's the 50mm objective. It's on a 20MOA base as well, not really sure if that makes a difference or not, I don't have the rifle here in front of me at the moment

Maybe super low, depending on what base you're using, and if you're using lens caps.

With a 20 MOA base, you should have room for low bases. I don't know that I'd try to stretch it to super low, unless you're getting them from someone who will let you exchange them. If so, it may be worth a try.

I was thinking low as well after I got to looking at them. Any recommendations for rings? I was thinking I'd go with TPS, but I've been kicking around just getting the Vortex rings as well. Vortex scope+rings, what could go wrong?

Pretty much any ring. Your rifle doesn't have iron sights so you don't need QD's. And it's a fairly heavy rifle already so you don't need ultra light rings. Puts you smack dab in the middle of bread and butter territory. Just about every maker imaginable will make a ring you can use. Pick one you like, can afford and is in stock and I don't think you can go wrong.
