I suggest the following firearms:

1) Springfield M1 Garand "Field grade" or "Service grade"

2) Springfield M1A "Loaded"

3) Colt or Bushmaster A4

Good luck and enjoy. Please let us know what you decide. :)

most of our enemies shoot 7.62x39

Uh, which ones? Russia uses 5.45x39mm for the most part. China has a homegrown 5.8mm cartridge. I think it's mostly some third world countries that are still using 7.62x39mm. I have no statistics but I wouldn't be surprised if the US commercial market (i.e., us) is now the largest consumer of 7.62x39mm.

My impressions could be wrong, but after southeast Asia, the other countries where we were involved also had troops with mostly Russian-designed weapons.
We've only been involved with smaller countries, what observers call proxy-states, so that conflicts, whether during or after the Cold War, would only be fought outside the main countries:

Grenada (trained Cuban troops), Mogadishu (Somalia) "Desert Storm", "Iraqi Freedom".
Panama (to remove Noriega) must be an exception.
Somebody else can add to this or correct me.

SIG 556 or Barrett REC7 ...

... both are gas piston and the REC7 comes in 6.8 SPC!!

Browning, nice pic of the Polish Tantal. Is that yours or just showing an example?

I wanted to point out, that is a well done Tantal with gun koat. The regular Century ones that are being grabbed up lately are parkarized (no gun koat), so keep that in mind to anyone drooling over the pic. ;)

AKs are great (either 7.62 x 39 or 5.45)- they have character. :D
