I need some help to identify my old Savage Mod. 99 in 300 Sav. The ser. # on the reciever bottom is 719124. It has the lever safety, brass rotary magazine, shell counter is brass as well, schnable forearm and the raised cheekpiece monte carlo stock. There are no model identification numbers on the receiver (doesn't say Model 99 anything) On the lever boss it is stamped with what I believe to be "sf " and it appears to have an "M" on the side of the receiver, top left side. My first thought was that it had a replacement butt stock installed at some point in the past but man, if it was, it is a beautifull job of fitting and finish matching because it sure looks factory and the finish colors on the forearm and butt stock are very close. Can anyone help figure out this "canundrum" I know I have seen the 99 with the monte carlo stock before in the past but I can't locate them in any of my books. What I would like to know is this likely an original gun? Year or manufacture? and what Model designation would this be? Any other info would also be very much appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.:confused:

You might try asking the folks over at 24hourcampfire.com. They have a savage collector's subforum that can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about it.

EDIT: The "savage 99" bit is located underneath the front scope base. Savage put the stamping there before they started factory drilling and tapping the 99.
