What would Odin say about GUN CONTROL?

This thread risks closure as a religious discussion??

Are you people HIGH?! :scrutiny:

FWIW, when I was growing up we had a Norwegian Elkhound named Odin ... nobody seemed to be offended by him (well not his name ... he would bite though).

So if I start a discussion of the Valhalla Shooting Club and Training Center up in Montrose are some of you sensitive types going to predict it will be locked for "religious content"?

jeez
(oops ... that might be too close to Jesus and someone might mistake if for proselytizing)

The topic of this thread doesn't deal with religion so much as with mythology.

Thanks for disregarding my faith as Mythology.

But I'm not sensitive about it, so go ahead and bash for a while folks, I don't mind. I don't demand that others adhere to my worldview.

Well, I had assumed all religions were given equal weight here, and thus equally verboten. I guess I was wrong. Good to see. FWIW, I am involved with an Asatru-based prison outreach group, as well as working on my ministerial credentials through them.
It is a valid and growing faith.

In that case, we could use providers for same here in AZ - we have a regular Christian chaplian come for the Multi-faith gatherings, which includes Asatru and Wicca, simply because policy requires a provider for any inmate gatherings, for a very good reason. There is NO regular provider for this religon, even though we can get a buddhist in once a year. Maybe you guys could arrange a yearly tour through AZ prisons? Just a thought.

Well, I haven't started doing work in the prisons yet, as I'm waiting for my clearance. I am part of the outside support. I'll speak with the gythia and see what can be arranged. She might know of a Kindred in your area who wants to be involved. I know she's done some out of state stuff already, just WA and ID so far, IIRC. I'll PM you with details. I'll mention the yearly trip to her, see what she thinks. Hope we can help.

*sigh*

I hate closing ones like this.

It might have stayed open, if folks had simply discussed the article and the very good points it raised for those whose religious inclinations tend toward Pagan/Wiccan/Norse/New Age (and yes, I know those are not all the same!). Instead the thread never got off the ground because it degenerated into bickering about what is, and is not, a valid religion and what should, or should not, be allowed on THR.

For those who might be looking for another, similar perspective as is in the opening article, see the article titled, "Tao of Gun" which you can find here.

We have enough religion to hate each other, but not enough to love each other. -- Jonathan Swift

As the person most directly responsible for that bickering, I'd like to offer my apologies. I took a hasty look at the thread, made a hasty assumption, followed it up with a hasty judgement, and went on about my merry way with no idea that I'd just insulted an entire group of people.

To those I've insulted, I sincerely apologize.

Thankfully, having a foot lodged squarely in my mouth doesn't seem to hinder my ability to type.
