Screw the sexy 13" garbage. There is no reason to buy that configuration. I say go for an 18" barrel, and leave the flash hider off. You really don't need one, even at night.
I have a 16" barrel with no flash hider, and it works well enough. I would have got an 18", but it was used and with a 600 dollar savings I wasn't gonna complain.

A lot of people say you need to get an 18" with a .308. I don't buy it. I've got a 16" myself, and it handles like a dream. The extra 1.5" between the 16.25" carbine barrel and the 17.75" Para barrel isn't going to make a significant velocity difference (significant being that the recipient of the bullet can tell the difference).
Look at the SCAR Heavy that SOCOM is adopting. It's got three barrel lengths. The heavy sharpshooter barrel is 20", the CQB barrel is 11". But the "standard" barrel is only 14" or so.
Aside from that, I agree with the above. Get the 16" version, I say. If the barrel has to be 16" to be legal, you might as well have all of that be actual barrel so you get the most out of it. There won't be much of a handling difference between the two.
Since you're talking about a non-SBR, where the overall length of barrel + whatever is welded to it has to be 16", you might as well go with the 16.25" barrel. Both it and the shorter barrel + flash hider combo are equally handy for real CQB work, and the extra bit of barrel gives you some extra thump at longer range. By comparison, the flash hider does nothing for you.
I would never get a short barrel with a welded-on extra-long flash surpressor on it. Get a threaded barrel, enjoy the flexibility, and it's what, a inch or so longer than the neutered version?
I never understood people that buy a shorter barrel than 16" only to put a permanant device on the front to get it to 16"....the reason to buy a short barrel is to get a handier rifle. You give up some velocity and muzzle signature. So with the short barrel and permanant muzzle device, you get all the disadvantages with none of the advantages...huh?
If you really want the shorter barrel, go pay the SBR tax and at least get the advantages of the shorter package.
