picked up my ccwp yesterday, took my 4 inch service six out in a suncraft molded nylon pancake holster i got on gun broker. it rode good in it but i know i need a better one for the long haul. i just can't see it lasting a very long time but it might. thanks to ya'll i gave it a shot with my gun and now i know it can be done. a new gun ain't cheap and its good to know my old service six is as good as a new gun and maybe better. i have found a deal online on a holster but don't know which would be a better fit for my gun. they have a holster for a gp 100 and for a k frame smith. they claim these are molded leather for the gun so it will have retention. will either of these work ok or will one be better or will i need to get one just for my gun? thanks

I recommend getting one specific for your gun. Making a holster work for a gun it wasn't actually designed for usually ends up being a waste of money.

Use your Google powers and I'm sure you'll find one you like.

I have to agree. Kydex is pretty easy to use and there's a lot of YouTube videos to help. If leather is your thing there are lots commercially available and a bunch of custom holster makers as well.

Dear Mr OLd Fart, You gotta be tired of running this thread on every gun forum on the web. Get the simply rugged and be done with it. Use your valuable time for actually shooting your gun.

Yes the Service Six is better than just about any revolver made today.

So, yea get the Simply Rugged and use it. And as Cajun says, any S&W K frame holster size should do.

I'll also say Buffalo Bore makes a dandy 158gr LSWHP with gas check (for leading in the barrel) and from a 4 inch barrel will hit 1100+ fps. Plenty good for just about anything.

Yeah I've got a simply rugged for my SP101 and it's great. The only downside is the oxblood color stains my pants when it is really warm.
