Ok so Ive owned Glocks for years, G22, G27, G30 and recently a G19. After shooting under 500 rounds my barrel looks like this. I believe its known as "copper fouling"?? Ive cleaned it with everything and it will not come out/clean. Ive never had this issue with any of my other models. Does it make any difference as far as performance or barrel life goes? What can I do to get it back to that mirror finish? I have tried Bore scrubber copper remover and it did nothing but smell really bad.

Get some Hoppes Elite gun cleaner and soap it up really well in the barrel. Wait about 30 minutes and patch it out. Most of it should be gone. If that still doesn't get it out then get some CR-10 copper solvent. Swab it in the barrel and let it set for 10 minutes. Patch it out and check to see if it is gone. If so, run a good patch full of Hoppes #9 in the barrel to dilute any CR-10 that may be left and get it off the metal. That should clean it up well. Be sure not to use a brass brush with the CR-10 in the barrel. It will obviously eat it up in time.

You might actually want to use the CR-10 outside as the ammonia smell is quite prominate.

Copper fouling from plated copper bullets? Range reloads?
Sweets 7.62 is the strongest most aggressive copper solvent I know of. I use it, according to the directions, on fouled barrels. Do not use bronze or brass brushes with Sweets, it eats them for breakfast.
The polygonal rifling in Glock factory barrels makes them very easy for me to keep clean. I'm surprised you have that much copper.

I do it all time. Like any other tool, clean it when finished. A shot of brake clean works well.

Heavy copper fouling. Get a solvent specifically meant to remove copper and you'll be good to go. Might have to give it a couple go-'rounds for it to take care of that amount, but it should be fine.

Do yourself a big favor and get some foam bore cleaner, it will clean any bore of copper without using a bore brush.

Trust me.

And my cat. :what:

Sweets 7.62 is great for cleaning out bad copper fouled barrels. I've used it on a few military surplus rifles that where pretty bad. A "foul out" electronic cleaner works the best. If you go on the web you can find instructions on how to make your own and commercial models ready to go.

JB Bore paste will work wonders and not hurt the barrel. The copper remover I have on hand is Shooter's Choice and has done an excellent job of removing fouling from the barrels of my ARs,Ruger M77 MK II and my Remington 700.

Actually the Hoppes Elite cleaner I mentioned was developed for the military to clean 50 cal. machine gun barrels. The foaming cleaners do work but if you get a really bad case like I did in my .257 Roberts, you have to resort to the tough stuff like CR-10 or Sweets.

Now I'm gonna go home and take a look at my Gock bbls. Doubt it I have the same problem since I use hoppes 9 after every use. I've just been going by what the patch looks like but maybe I need to do a closer inspection.

Thanks for all the help. I bought some hoppes copper fouling remover last night. I let it saturate for about 30 minutes. Ran some clean patches through the hit it with a patch with clp and it's almost completely gone. I'm gonna hit it again today when I get home.
Thanks again.

BTW I was shooting that cheap Russian brown bear that's ~7$ per box.

Why waste the ammonia you just payed for eating away at a bore brush instead of removing the copper in the barrel?

Get a nylon bore brush for Sweets.

The Russian stuff always leaves copper fouling because of the way their bullets are designed. The copper wash that they use on their steel isn't all that resilient. I've had copper fouling on feed ramps because of it.

That said, when I buy it in bulk, I'm alright with that added nuisance because of the cost savings.

It's decent stuff for the price. It smokes alot but I don't notice much accuracy difference between this and others at 20 yards. I've never shot farther with it. I bought 500 rounds back when it was 6.99 a box. Now it's almost 10$ a box. For the price it is now I'll stick with pmc or WWB.
