I just got a SIG 229 with a 40S&W barrel and I am very impressed. Quite a well-engineered pistol. I thought that a 229 9mm barrel might drop in and I could use either the 40S&W mags or possibly have to buy the 229 9mm mags. Does anyone know **for sure** that this is possible or not?

Why? I'm a sucker for punishment.
Actually I have several 9mm pistols (CZ-P01, Hi-power) and I like the round because it's so versatile. So I'd like this one to take that round as well. I still love the 229 and want the 40S&W capability.

Thanks for the info!

geo, the 9 is not a drop in fit, but the 357 sig is! uses the same mags to boot! Once I dropped in my 357 barrel mine has never gone back to 40, it is a hoot to shoot.

Yep, that's great, jimmyjoebob. What versatility. I've never owned a SIG until a month ago and it's already one of my favorite firearms. I bet it won't be my last SIG.

Yes. You can get the Sig Sauer P229 9mm Conversion barrel (part #SS2299SB) at www.efkfiredragon.com for $139.99 (as of this writing). Call for details.

You CANNOT, however, use the stock .40/.357 magazine for this purpose. I don't know, at present, where you can buy the 9mm mags; but the conversion barrel seems to indicate that they do, in fact, exist.

Wouldn't you prefer the .357 SIG conversion instead? I mean, wouldn't putting a 9mm barrel in a P229 be like putting a Cavalier's engine in a Corvette?

In other words, why putt-putt when you can VA-ROOOOOM!!!?

Stick with .40, or else go .357 SIG. The same mag is used either way.

geo they are great guns
if you want a 45 next look at the 220st, I traded off my older 220s, because I just didn't shoot them that much, but the new 220st is awesome. Also find a coveted 225, the best shooting/pointing SIG ever made. IIRC you were not a huge fan of Glocks, you might want to pass on thed SIG pro, had one sold it, just didn't feel right. Of course get a 226 as well, that is about all I want left in the sig line. The rest I have either shot or owned and didn't care to keep long term

Thanks jimmyjoebob, I'll look into those models. I'd love to get another SIG, I'm just not sure which one. I just got a CZ-97 for a .45 shooter so maybe a 220st would complement it well. I'm looking for a slightly smaller and lighter CCW than the 229, but when I get my license in September I may be happy using the 229 once I try it out. The Fist #20 IWB holster seems like a good choice for the 229. I'm familliar with the 239, and it's smaller size is preferable, but I don't like losing 4 rounds (from 12 to 8) from the 229 to 239 for only a half inch size reduction. Thanks again guys.

being the rather fluffy person that I am I had no issues about carrying the 229, but I prefer IWB type rigs, my first choice for leather is Milt Sparks.

The 239 is not bad, the 225 is a tad larger still 8 shots, but to those who gripe at me for only carrying 8 rounds, I just smirk and reply " Real men can do it in 8" That normally pisses them off enough so that they back off of the pitch for the super high cap 30 rd wondergun of the week.

bottom line any choice you make in regards to sigs will be a good choice
