Winchester "Military Grade" Buckshot

I was at the local Wal-Mart looking through the (mostly empty)ammo section. Saw that they finally had some 00 buckshot in stock, although the 3-box limit applied.

This was the so-called "military grade" buckshot in the brown boxes. Has the OD green hulls and blackened brass. I suspect this is just commercial buckshot in a different color, but it was all they had so I bought some.

I heard that it tends to pattern erratically in some (maybe most) guns. Other than that, anyone have any pro/con experiences with this stuff?

It patterns alright in my 311 with a mod choke.

If you read close it is just winchester buckshot. I like having some on the side saddle just for looks, but around here it is a dollar a shell...not exactly a good deal.

Buck costs money but so do good Phesant loads! I bought a few boxes for my Project H/D Pump project gun and can't wait to try it out!
I think the Military spe'c means low glare and is just contract noomenclature.
Nothing like having some "00" buck on hand to pound through a side door of a car ormaybe level a shack somewhere! It's a good G/P load.
I have some and a pair of low recoil slugs in the stock bandoleer.

If you are lucky the primer has been sealed better for storage. Not that big of a deal for normal SD/HD use when you will probably be rotating your ammo every so often.

It looks very similar to the buckshot we used in the army...might be exact same stuff, just like the 9mm NATO rounds.

It's always patterned well for me - as good as any other. It's what's in the gun right now. I pretty much only use buckshot in HD shotguns, so I've shot ALOT of it. For single projectiles, I'd rather use a rifle.

Shotgun ammo is still readily available down here in the southernmost tip of Tx, I have been shooting buck shot out of a 14 inch barrel Remington 1100, it has a modified Rem-choke, and using some various brands S and B and Royal both low recoil and regular, and some Spartan, all of it runs about 53 cents a shell in todays over inflated market, they all pattern different out of the same gun....have not tried any of the mainstream brands yet. in the last 2 months I have killed at least 30 possums trying to invade the hen house for eggs and the royal low recoil seems to cut them in half just as good as any of the other.

It's just marketing hype. I have a few of these on hand. I don't see any difference between the 'military grade' and the regular 2 3/4" Winchester buckshot that wal Mart used to carry. Personally I favor the federal classic for any pest control use as it seems to pattern tightest (of conventional wad loads)

That Remington 3" that wal mart was selling patterns the 'worst' out of my guns... Meaning that at closer ranges... Such as for the hd gun it seems to me that an 8-10" pattern at 20' is better for close range.

I think the only real difference between "military grade" and ordinary 2-3/4" buck is the shell case color and blackened copper base. It makes sense in a military situation where flashes of light reflected off a shiny bright case and the typical red colored hull may give an enemy a visual on the shotgun armed soldier. For civilian and police use its nothing special. Should be sold at a lower price being surplus ammo but if the seller can make the military grade a marketing plus and someone is willing to buy their load of nonsense and pay a higher price, well that's called the free market system.
