I found an FFL who builds and overhauls LE shotguns. I have wanted an 870 Police Magnum for some time. Now I have the money but the several shops I've checked don't have the specific model that I'm looking for. (Rem #4899 blued receiver & wood butt and forend)

What I need to know is if the slide assy' on the Wingmaster 12 gauge is the same as the 870 Police except for finish? I understand the magazine caps are different too.

Thanks,

CI

Which "slide assembly"?

The "Slide" in an 870 is the plate that fits into the bottom of the bolt and makes the bolt lock and unlock.

The fore end assembly is called the "action bar" assembly.

Both will interchange in most all versions of the 870 within gauge.

Unless Remington has changed them recently, all basic parts on the genuine Wingmaster will interchange with a Police model.
Parts that WON'T are some magazine related parts from the Express model.

Remington no longer offers the blued Police model, so all you need to do is buy a Wingmaster and replace the stock and the actual wood fore end.
Police stocks are oil finished with no checkering. The police forearm is shorter than the Sporting guns, and has grooves instead of checkering.

On the Wingmaster and Police models, the magazine cap is the same. Again, the Express cap is different.
