Hey all,

Im looking at .22LR plinkers and after firing the Beretta U22 Neos I am very interested in buying it. My only real question/concern is if its reliable.

TIA

I bought one for my daughter this past Christmas. So far she has run about 1200 rounds through it, mostly Federal Champions and Winchester bulk pack. With the exception of a few duds, the gun performed flawlessly. The trigger pull is a little heavy, but accuracy doesn't seem to affected by it. A decent .22 plinker to start out with.

thanks for the input.

I didnt really mind the trigger pull personally. I had tested out a 22/45 along with it and felt the Neos' trigger was much better. I mean its nothing like the ease of my 1911's, but i liked it better than a lot of others ive tried out.

Have you looked at Ruger? My girlfriend's stepdad has a Ruger MkII, a sweet stainless .22 great for range or plinking.

I've seen a lot of MkI,II,IIIs out there... seen some pretty good deals out there too on used stuff. I like the SS, but yeah if you get a chance try one of those out before you buy something else do it. I love it, will get one of my own when finances allow... looks less like a Star Trek phaser than the neos, although I will admit I've never shot one and they might be what your looking for.

not interested in the ruger. I didnt like the long trigger pull it had. I know they have a strong following and have loads of support in the aftermarket, but for now i just want something i can buy and shoot and have fun for a while. Eventually i would like some sort of scope or red dot for it as well, so the Neos' built in rail is perfect. I know some rugers like the 22/45's and some others come with the weaver mount, but the trigger pull was a definitely deal breaker for me.

I bought my son a neo when he was twelve and he liked the new age look of it. Now that has worn off and he would much rather shoot the MKII with a red dot.

I bought a Neos a couple of years ago, after 700-800 rounds (3-4 range trips), It started having problems ( sometimes not going bang with the trigger was pulled). I got in touch with Berretta, and they replaced it free of charge.

I like the second Neos, it is not exactly terribly reliable though. It occasionally fails to load a round into battery, and instead jams halfway open. I kind of think the recoil spring is a little weak, but I have not seen any replacement springs anywhere, so I no way to find out.

Overall, it is a nice plinking gun, .22 is my favorite round to shoot, and this gun is lot of fun. If I were to do it all over again, I would probably go with a MkII, MKIII or Buckmark. I don't think my neos is quite in the same class as them quality or accuracy wise.

Quadkid;

I've got a NEOS, & bought it because a friend had one with only minor problems related to lots and lots of rounds, but not much cleaning. Once we got him dialed in on proper maintenance, the problems went away. He's got over 10K rounds through his.

Mine, however, shows a distinct reluctance to feed the last round of a full magazine, and I'm still working on the *** factor with that glitch.

I've had mine for a little while now. Been to the range twice, about 300 rounds total. Not one malfunction of any kind.

i had a MKIII Hunter but sold it due to it constantly jamming. That and taking it apart to clean it was a chore. It got to the point where i would literally rather clean the bathroom than take apart that gun. Id say it misfired or jammed around 1/3 to almost half of the time. Just wasnt worth it.

Even if the Neos isnt perfectly reliable(Its a hard task for any auotloader chambered in .22LR to be that), im sure the disassembly is much easier. And its cheaper, so those would be my buying points.

Fella's;

There cannot be an easier .22 pistol to disassemble & clean than the NEOS. After taking it down once, you have to wonder why in the world did other designer's make it such a rotten job on their guns? Kudo's to Beretta's design job on that one, it's truly "World Class".

thats probably my biggest draw to it right now is the ease of field stripping it over the rugers. Im lazy, but also a clean freak so i want something i can take down real quick when i get home after the range and clean.

Keep it clean!

Once you figure it out, take down is a breeze. I find that it will shoot reliably for about 700 rounds, then you have to take it down to clean. Also, just a bore snake through will not help, a thorough cleaning of the action is required. I think this is the biggest issue for .22 shooters. For some reason many people seem to think you can run a .22 forever and never clean it. This is definitely not the case, especially with this gun.

I like mine. As long as you keep it maintained, it runs well. Also realize that when you are shooting .22, there is a far greater chance of dud rounds than standard handgun rounds. Bulk .22 is not nearly to the quality control levels of even the low end standard hand gun rounds.

Anyway, that is my 2 cents.

I have had one for about three years and I also have quite a bit of trigger time with the Browning Buckmark and Ruger Mark II.
I agree with a lot of what has been posted above about the Neos:

It is a good gun for the price
With quality ammo it will run reliably
Take down and cleaning is easy
Mounting optics is very easy
The trigger is not bad at all (better than the Ruger, but not as good as the Buckmark)
The grip is rather small (much smaller than the Buckmark's)

If your budget (and hands) are a little larger, get the Browning Buckmark. Otherwise the Neos is a great choice and I would take it over any of the Rugers.
