I was wondering if the standard Winchester .44 mag JSP ammo from Wal-Mart has considerable blast and flash. Not that I hate those attributes, I actually enjoy them. Just looking for a good shock and awe load for the range. Any suggestions?

DoubleTap uses flash suppressants in their powders, so I kind of excluded those for this purpose.

yes the 230 grain jsp white box very nice to shoot ,were talkin suntan baby! i get 3-4 foot flames out of my 3 inch 629 ,man ive torn 2 by 4's in half with 1 -2 shots from them!:what:

No fireball froma 7.5 inch vaquero, but I haven't fired them at night. Decent round for big game.

The white box is good for that...
But for "shock and awe" I load .44 Maggies with black powder.
Try it, you'll LOVE it.

Could you go more in depth on that?

The hottest factory stuff I've fired is the yellow box Remington UMC 180gr JSP.

I think you'll get bigger flames with the 180 gr. loads. I have a 3" 629 and keep a box around just for night shooting with friends. Everyone loves a giant fireball.

It's not a hot load at all. Very minimal recoil. Maximum muzzle blast and report, though.
I put a 200gr Mav Dutchman bullet on top of about 35gr FFFG, compressed.
The Mav Dutchman is a custom mould from Lee Precision, purchased through Big Lube. The bullet needs a lot of soft lube to keep fouling down. The Lyman Keith mould #429421, is pretty big, I intend to try these for more projectile weight. Don't use the hard waxy lubes intended for smokeless powders.
I get my black powder from Graf's.
I've never tried this with Pyrodex or other substitutes.
The range I shoot at has awnings, and they really amplify the boom.
If there is interest, I can post some pictures of the flash and such.
