Hey guys I have a XD-9 which my wife dosent like to shoot beacuse she says that the stock grip is to big for her hand. I have a friend that recently had a home invastion and in the process a diffrent friend walk in unaware of what was going on and got shot and killed. So we went to get another hand gun to keep by the front door. She said for the price range she liked the glock the best so we reserved the glock 19. Does any one own both guns and have a preference or own a glock 19. How accurate is the glock, and what would you recommend as far as the trigger upgrade to 3.5 pounds, any opions are appreciated thanks

Sorry about your friend! The Wife will probably not like the G19, any better than the XD, as the grip is bigger yet. Accuracy wise is a draw, both will shoot great groups if the shooters up to them. May look into the M&P9 with the adjustable backstraps;)

bingo

Might also want to look into the Walther PPS and Kahrs. Also the M&p 340 j-frame revolver.

See if she like the 19 at the store. Sometimes women just want an excuse to pick out their own gun. Fair enough, I gotz gun buying excuses to.

check out the XDM version as well the grips are adjustable there and they are great guns!

G19 or whatever...

Best way to find out what you, your wife and anyone for that matter, like or finds easiest to shoot with is to take him/her/them to a range where various firearms can be rented and of course shot. I have several such indoor ranges in my town and imagine that most towns have one within an hours drive. Not far to drive when considering the purchase of a "tool" that may very well save a life one day, GOD forbid!
But fire as many as possible and you may find that between the XD and the Glock your wife may end up liking a S&W revolver in 38 Special +P.
If that's what works best than so be it.
Different strokes for different folks and different hands and grips as well.

I love the G19 it is to me one of my favorite guns ever made. I would take it over a G19 anyday. My aunt has one and she doesnt mind it. My other aunt has a Kahr CW9 and to me thats a better gone sizewise for a woman.

The M&P9's small grip insert should make for a better fit, as well as a shorter trigger reach if that is an issue. And with a trigger job done by a competent smith, it can be adjusted to almost any set of characteristics you prefer (especially since the trigger does not have to pull back the striker at all, unlike with Glocks).

I installed a after market 3.5 trigger bar in my G-19 last winter and it is great, like a long smooth DA revolver pull!
The install is easy just make sure you have the spring turned in the correct direction, it is easy to install backwards!

try the SIG229. My sister is tiny, 5'-1" 105lbs and she is nasty with her 229. Great pistol with great ergo's. I know that S&W made a few single stack mid size 9mm that were very female (or small hand) friendly, and they can usually be found pretty cheap.

i own both... both are accurate. well balanced in my hands.

Glocks have a much better finish which will resist rust vs Springfield XD9. The XD9's grip seems better than the G19. Racking the slide for the XD9 is harder than the G19 (even with a brand new spring in G19). Recoil spring seems to have more weight to it. I wouldn't recommend the XD9 for a small frame woman.

If i had to choose only 1, i would keep the G19. The back strap safety is good, but i would sometimes forget i have to fully depress it to rack the slide or fire it.

G19 vs. G19.

G19 wins!!!!!:D:D:D

I'll second all the suggestions for a look into the M&P. I have mine on the nightstand next to me as I type this. 17+1 of Speer Gold Dots is an awful lot of confidence.
The M&P also has the lowest recoil in most hands, compared to the XD and Glock. I can get much faster recovery times with the M&P than with the other two. With the interchangeable backstraps, there's sure to be one that'll fit her well.
I've never felt the need for a trigger job either BTW. It was a bit gritty out of the box, but after about 500 dry-fires and actual rounds down range, it is not bad at all. And out of the box, it was certainly not any worse than the triggers on Glocks or XDs.

I agree with those who feel she won't like the Glock if she doesn't like the XD-9, and the Smith & Wesson M&P is worth serious consideration.

Between the two I'd easily say Glock. And I don't like Glocks. For me it'd be the MP40. I have the MP40c and it's a sweeeet shooting gun. It hates sand but for in home use it's awesome.

How accurate is the glock
Very. My wife has small hands and she prefers the gip on my G19 and G23 to the grip on my XD40 (Same as the grip on the XD9) If the gun is for your wife however, let her feel the grip on both and choose what she wants.

The G19 is hard to beat though!

I've shot both, I like the G19 better and I own one. Others may have different mileage than me. Both are great though!

The gun itself is accurate, but it'll depend more on the shooter

I've owned both (still own TWO XD9's) many women and smaller handed guys LOVE the XD9 in hand...the G19 is an excellent CCW as well and either will serve you well...I suggest letting her hold both at the store and see what fits her hand best...most women I've asked or shot with preffer the XD or M&P 9/40 frame/grips to the GLOCK...some are the opposite though...if it feels right and points naturally for her she'll shoot it well...take her to the store WITH YOU...don't just "bring something home" (classic GUY mistake!) Make your wife a key part of the shopping/descission process...it also tends to foster more interest in learning to shoot it well and safe and more pride of ownership -"hey that is the gun I picked out that I like" vs. "here you go....shoot this!"

You might also check into a P9 from Khar and the SR9 compact from Ruger as well as the XD and G19 and M&P series...some of those have smaller grip inserts that a good store will let you swap if you a er seriously shopping to buy and let you feel. The bersa .380 is not a bad way to go either...we sell a LOT of them to women with small hands as well as S&W642 revolvers. My buds wife traded in her Bersa and fell in love with a stainless XD9 compact model...and outshoots him with it now! I'm not a huge S&W auto fan but the M&P compact is about the nicest feeling best shooting compact in it's price class from what I've seen (and in my opinion) but I just don't like S&W as a company enough to own one myself. -YMMV
