As some of you may be aware I had sent my brand new Springfield XD 40 Subcompact stainless in to the factory because of some trigger slap issues and some failures to eject (about 1 to 2 every 100 rounds). It went off to the factory and was back within a 2 week period with a very short explanation of what was done:

Ream the chamber.
Tune the extractor.
Adjust the trigger.

So I take to the range with 170 rounds of PMC bulk package 180 gr. and some Winchester 180 gr. hollow point personal defense rounds. During the course of fire I had the usual outstanding accuracy at 21 feet I had become accustomed to, I also noticed the trigger didn’t slap my poor trigger finger anymore but I had a failure to feed, which may have been caused by my limp wristing. So still not convinced I proceeded to buy some S&B 180 gr. (50 rounds) and some Fiochi 180 gr. hollow points (50 rounds) and back to the range I went. All rounds fired without a hitch most notable about the experience was how hot the Fiochi was, at least a volley ball sized fire ball out of the muzzle for each round. After 270 rounds of various FMJ and HP 180 gr. stuff I’ve decided to deem this pistol reliable, however after 270 rounds of .40 S&W 180 gr. out of a 20 ounce 3 inch barreled wonder, my hands were really starting to take a pounding, including my trigger finger, which I believe is simply the recoil of the gun, which is about that of a .38 +P+ in an Air weight weapon.

Once concern I am still having with the weapon is at 33ft. it seems to shoot about 6 to 8 inches to the left, yet is fairly dead on at 21 feet. I had issues like this with the subcompact 9mm XD as well but was able to eventually sight it in. I will sight this weapon and post the results next time.
