I am in the process of modifying an XD slide stop to fit my grip style. The slide stop hangs down right where my right thumb is. While gripping the gun my thumb makes contact with it, keeping the slide from locking back on the last round. I don't want to try to change my grip.
I've filed enough material off the bottom of it so my thumb clears it and the gun functions fine.
Now I'd like to add a little material to the side of the slide stop in order to have a little shelf. Something similar to a 1911 slide stop.

My question is, what would be the best way to add the material, welding or brazing? It wouldn't take much and I'd shape it with a file to blend with the lines of the gun, polish, then blue it.

If I screw it up I already have a new slide stop to go back on it.
