I had PM exchange with one of the mods the other day about the never ending stream of Walmart threads and would just like to offer my $.02.
I dislike Walmart for several reasons, some of them being their deliberate strategy of moving into an area and pricing any smaller competing stores out of business, their drain of local dollars away from the local economy with all store profits going back to Bentonville, and their treatment of their employees.
One thing I can't hold against them is an anti-gun attitude. There are three Walmarts within 20 miles of my home. All three sell rifles, ammo, cleaning accessories, muzzleloading accessories, targets, gun cases, .... throughout the year, more in the fall leading up to hunting season.
Walmart is a business. They don't exist to specifically please me, or you, or any other single person. They exist to make money. One of the ways they do that is by responding to market demand. Where I live, it's a pretty rural area. Lots of farms and woods. Many people hunt. Many people fish. The gun and fishing sections at my local Walmarts are decent sized. One of the three Walmarts is in a much more rural area than the other two. The golf and tennis sections of this Walmart are much smaller than the other two but they carry more hunting and fishing stuff.
They sell what their markets demand. If item X sells well in store A, Store A will continue to sell item X. If item X does poorly in store B, store B will drop item X in favor of item Y, which, in turn, will increase their profits.
Face it, our passion isn't one shared by the masses. The US as a whole is steadily turning into a nation of cowering sheeple who fear guns. Our society is moving further and further from its poineer and agrarian roots. Shooting sports are seeing less participants than in the past while hunting license sales are steadily decreasing. Many kids would rather play video games and IM their friends than spend a day at the range or in the woods. Farms and wilderness are being eaten up at a record pace to make way for housing developments and strip malls. (see paragraph two above) The only thing preserving our way of life is that pesky Second Amendment and the strong spirit of those of us who choose to still believe in it.
Walmart didn't create these trends, we have liberal politicians, corporate America and the liberal media to thank for that. Walmart is merely responding to them in the most financially beneficial way, by offering for sale the items that will sell the most and maximize their profits. If your main concern is ensuring that Walmart stocks the things you need to pursue your passion, maybe your passion should be golf. Every Walmart carries golf equipment.
Thank you for listening and have a nice day.
