I have always been curious as to the effectiveness of weight based compensators like that on a friend's USP. But it is quite hard to find one for any other make of handgun. I found these below on a site but near $100 per unit just to satisfy a mere curiosity seems extravagant. Especially as I wanted to buy two or three of them.

Does anyone here have an idea of a model similar to this below but in the $50 range?

Make your own? A 1" picatinny ring and a piece of scrap bar stock sounds like it would be adequate to satisfy your curiosity.

find a cheap weapon mounted light or laser. strip the guts and fill with lead/lead shot.

Great advice! I did just that. After I polished the steel bar a bit and rounded off the edges I coated it with black glossy Duracoat. Range report coming up this week:

I was thinking, if that turns out to be too heavy, you could swap out the steel for aluminum. By drilling and tapping holes in various locations you could customize the weight location. Hex caps and some lead and you could make it weigh anything anywhere.

The recoil with this weight is a joke! You can dump a mag like a 22 and never leave the target. Also the video is kind of funny as a piece of hot brass landed on my shooting glasses and tried to cook me.
