The wife and kids got me a 3 inch barreled 629 for Christmas, I want a holster for it but I don't want a plastic one. I was wondering if any of you know if any of the holster makers offer a holster that can do both a strong right side draw but can also be converted to a cross draw.

I would like to have the cross draw capabilities when I would be sitting in my truck for long periods of time while traveling.

The dual purpose designs I have compromise both carry positions. What you might consider is wearing both holsters and switching the gun back and forth as needed. In my winter carry rotation I have lately been carrying two Uberti Stallions with an innocuous vest and am not that uncomfortable. CME Holsters is where I look first.

I also have the Simply Rugged for my 3" 629 and it can be used either cross draw or strong side. I use the cross draw when on long trips and for me it works well.

I went to the website and I like the looks of it. does it have a lining on the inside of the holster?

I use a Galco Phoenix that will work in both strong side and cross draw modes, quite well. The shortest barrel it is made for is 4 inch however. Desantis catalogs the Dual Angle Hunter, which looks decent enough, however I have never worn one.

I have those and find them outstanding for cross draw of a large gun. However, it is a good example of how the either/or holsters are compromises. It doesn't have the forward cant necessary to help conceal a grip carried strong side. It also does not ride very tight. It would be great for open carry.
