The wife and I recently moved to a retirement community in Florida. There has been a new range and gun shop under construction nearby for quite a while now and is now finished and had a soft opening this weekend. The building has around 57,000 square feet, an indoor 9 lane 100 yard rifle and separate pistol ranges. The gun shop display area has display cabinets along the walls that when filled will hold a few hundred hand guns and rifles. There is a circular counter about 20 feet in diameter that has tethered pistols so that you can actually hold the gun and get a feel for it without having to get a customer service person to unlock a cabinet. The guns are real except for having the firing pin removed. There will be various full auto weapons to shoot, but under the close supervision of a store employee.
The range walls are 1 foot thick concrete to reduce noise levels outside the range so as not to annoy the nearby residents. The back stop is built to handle 50 BMG rounds should you have one to shoot. It is a first class facility that had to have cost several million dollars to build not to mention the inventory they will have on hand. Range rental is a bit high, $20 an hour for pistols and $30 an hour for the rifle range but everything is first class. You can buy various membership levels that give you various perks and freebies with the highest level costing $2,500 a year. I will be looking for one of the lower membership levels.
I was disappointed in that you can't shoot reloaded ammo, it has to be factory new. You don't have to buy their ammo but they have very competitive pricing on their products.
I'm not affiliated with the this range, just wanted to relate the quality of the range and how well it was thought out and executed. I've never seen a range like this one. I will try to get some pictures and post them later, if they allow me to take pictures.
Just remembered, they have a smoothie bar, coffee machines and serve beer. You can shoot and have a beer afterward but you can't have a beer and then go shoot. There is a huge training classroom and has a small kitchen to serve food for special occasions or meetings.
