I've not put one into game yet, but the 165 gr bullets shoot well in my 308's, although some people can't get them to shoot well for them. But something to consider, and I'm moving in that direction. At one time Nosler did not recommend their Ballistic Tip for game larger than deer. But people used them on bear and elk size game anyway, often with poor results and with the accompanying complaints to Nosler. Nosler addressed the problem by making SOME of the Ballistic Tip bullets much tougher. Any Ballistic Tip 27 caliber and up with bullet weights 150 gr and up are now a much tougher bullet than they used to be. I'm hearing from a lot of people that they give near identical performance as the AB on bigger game, but are generally more accurate and about 1/2 the cost.
The 168 gr BT shoots even better than the 165 AB in my rifles. I will probably start moving in that direction and not buy anymore AB's after using up the ones I have. For me whitetail and black bear are the primary game hunted anyway. An elk is on my bucket list, I just want one and I'm done. I got the opportunity to hunt them last fall and plan on going back each year until successful. From what I've seen the heavier BT's will get the job done.
