My new Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 3.6" .40

My next handgun will be one. I can’t decide between the 3.6” and the 4”.

Why did you go 3.6”?

I'm a fan of the M&P line. I prefer the more compact 1st Gen model and have two of them.

Just my opinion:

When carrying IWB the 3.6 tends to be more top heavy and flare out the holster more especially since it doesn't have as long an "arm" to leverage it in. Since it prints more it scares off the bad guys. It's all about deterrence. This of course can be fixed with a properly designed holster.

In .357 Sig the difference between 3" and 4" is 200 fps in some guns (We lost 350 fps between 5" and 3"). In .40 I'm guessing 0 4" is only 50 fps.

The 3.6 works better for Appendix Carry but
I'm allergic to flagging my femoral artery among other things...

These are just a few of the reasons I chose the 4". Many others will choose the 3.6" as it simply works better for them. If you are going to Appendix Carry I would choose the short barrel. As Paul Harrell would say it's all about program compliance (likely followed by "you be the judge", but that's another story).

I keep having to talk myself out of buying pretty much this exact gun. Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore has had them for a great price ($300) for a while now and its becoming harder and harder to pass up.

That the same deal that caused me to buy the 4" NTS. Although to be honest if you really want a 9mm they are not that much more. I tend to be a contrarian IE buy Revolvers when everyone is going to Pistols, 9's when everyone is going to .40's and now .40's when everyone is going to 9's.
