Shoot-Straight had the subcompact in 9mm for $300, but sold out before I heard about the deal. They still have 40s on sale at that price... I'll probably pick one up anyway, but would be nice to get a 9mm for the same price... I've heard nothing but great things about the P99AS, and think Walther is stupid for not keeping in production... Not sure I could bring myself to pay around 5 bills for one though...I’ll throw another curve ball....Walther P99AS. Da/sa Striker -fired....about 23 oz...15+1...Glock 19 sized. Bud’s for less than $500.
@Old Dog .... my post sounded really defensive. I didn’t intend that. Cheers!
At least it's not "Get a Glock."
No need for the double stack, the Sig 239 fit me perfectly and now that the 239 is no longer in production the 225 A-1 fits just as nicely as my old 239. And as the guy in the church in Texas proved recently, if your skills are up to par you only need one shot. Besides, double stack gun means double stack spare mags, that's just more bulk to hide.If that's the case find a 229 with the E2 grip.
I don’t think you’d notice any difference in draw with rail vs no rail. Let us know how you like it.I ordered a german red box P229r e2 yesterday for $450, I didn't realize I ordered the railed version until afterwards.
Didn't realize the sight line was that much higher, I have big hands and should make it easier for me to get on target.
Does the rail interfere with IWB holster draw vs the non-rail? Didn't notice it on my beretta with the rail but the sig looks blockier, if that's a word.
Also the only one still in production on that list since I read they are dropping the 225 in 2020.
As noted also worth checking that are roughly Glock 19 (though the 229 is closer to the 45 or 19x) size, DA/SA are the CZ compacts, 75 Compact, P01, PCR
Also worth looking at are lighter options, the CZ P-07 (almost exactly G19 size) and the Beretta PX4 Compact and some HK options.
Personally for a DA/SA carry option I like the P07 and PX4.
They have not made a "real" P225 for a long time. The current P225A1 is a P239 in sheep's clothing. It makes sense with the P239 being discontinued they would discontinue the P225A1
There is a bit more take up in SA then I am used to, but feels like it is better quality.
There's a Short Reset Trigger kit available, which is a drop-in part. It's not actually a trigger, just a part. I have them in most of my Sigs.
And congrats on the "new" pistol! I've got Hogue G10 micarta grips on mine. I'm not down with the plasticy feel either.
Ordered some hogue grips, these grips feel too plasticy
I would say the pcr actually feels much smaller and handier than the p229, particularly in the grip area.
The 229 pictured above is an e2. Just look for grip screws to tell. They feel too small IMO. I actually prefer the normal 229 grip over the smaller E2. Luckily any 229 can use standard grips, most only need the grip and screws (I've heard some didnt have the holes tapped but mine did). To put the E2 on a Non-E2 you have to change the hammer spring strut and spring I believe. I'd give my E2 grip to someone who wanted to try it but it's just as cheap to buy the kit as to buy the spring and perch separately. I'm glad everyone has options and gets to carry what they want, but the 229 or similar is just too big and heavy for what they are IMO for carry. I use mine for a range toy mostly.
but I don't know if that is the standard sized grip
If it has grip screws it's the big grips. The E2 grip was much smaller and clips on. No screw. The E2 was the answer to people calling the 229 fat. I know very few who actually liked the E2 though. I think I read that they are no longer made but that could be wrong.
The 229 carried really well for me, but was heavier than I prefer and didn't actually carry much better than the 226 Legion, which I shoot much better.
