I have a Remington 725VTR in .25. I call it the Hammer. It produces power (and noise) on level with a CCI CB Short.

Spring/Nitro rifles just do not, IMO, provide accuracy that is on par with the aforementioned CB Shorts in even a low end .22 rifle. But they are a little less money for ammo, fit into certain environments more politically correctly and take down vermin quite decently. Got this one on closeout from Gander under $150.

I've never really gotten decent accuracy from cbs. 1-2" at 25yds is about as good as any of my guns ever did. I think mine were longs tho. Are there specific guns your using?
I find Springer's difficult to shoot consistently, but otherwise quite accurate. I can't really do my b25 justice, unless I fire it from a soft rest.

I am probably being too unkind to break barrel rifles. I know there are some that are very accurate but they cost way more than I am willing to spend on that format. I would spend on a PCP or pumper, I just do not like spring/Nitro piston break barrel rifles due to their gargantuan size and weight and the double recoil and all the fuss requiring special holds. My 725VTR, a little better than most groups but not atypical, if I can get the scope to stop moving:

The above were shot off a rest with a folded cloth under the fore stock if I recall, though lately I have managed nearly as well off hand if I tuck my elbow into my tummy/rib cage with the artillery hold. I can do as well with the CB Short, off hand, because the rifle is a foot shorter and three pounds lighter!

You are right completely in that CB Shorts are not match ammo or my other recent favorite CCI Quiet Segmented but I can get equal or better groups, usually much better on average from a rifle that is small and compact and light weight, which spring/Nitro rifles just are not.

One of the thing I like about Hatsan is they offer a multitude of rifles in .25 after buying the Edge I wanted more .25 break barrels. Now have all these. I think many manufacturers missed the boat when it left the dock in the .25 caliber break barrel market.
