The flip-up's that came on my Argos BTR Gen II work just fine. Why would anyone pay $100 for plastic caps?

Bill
because they are nicer.....same reason to buy a Midas BTR, Helo, Ares, or Cronos....or a S&B if we wanna go that far.....instead of the Argos (which is a really nice scope in its own rights)

Obviously not for everyone, and there's only a couple scope/rifle combos id want them for, but there are a few.

Frankly, I wouldn't pay that much for those metal ones from Leupold.

Well Loon, after watching a couple minute's of the 6.5 guys playing with a set, I still think the set on my Argos will protect just as well. As for the four named scopes above, I believe all four are FFP, which I have no use for and second, My rule is not buy glass priced higher than the rifle and a $500 CZ 457 American only shooting 50 yards doesn't rate $800 + glass sitting on it. Those four are best used on 6.5 and .308 tacticool bolt guns ranging out to 1K or more.

I now own two Athlon scopes mostly based on your recommendations/purview of them and I am more than satisfied with both. I was headed towards Vortex until I read the threads here on THR.

Nothing wrong with that!
Everybody has priorities and desires, and honestly mostly you spend a significant amount for a slight increase in tangible increase in performance.

Im somewhat more willing to spend for those little bumps...but im pretty selective on where they go.
Ive got cheap 3-10 dollar flip up covers on most of mine, but the Meoptas at least will probably get nicer ones when i decide on what to get and what fits.
I thought all the Argos BTRs were ffp, just looked and seen they had a couple listed as sfp....i really dont like ffps, so having something below the Midas line thats sfp and has Turrets is nice!

I have a friend who has a set. Nice, but overpriced. Butler Creek works fine where I live. If I lived in a rain forest, I might do something different.
Havent had much issue with the BCs, or cheap ebay/amazon specials for that matter, tore a couple lids off but thats about it. I just like the Aluminas better.

Can't argue with that at all. Just don't want to pay for them. Go buying accessories at a hundred bucks a whack and before long I could have bought a gun, or components.

I have aluminas on all of my leupolds. Nice caps. They're basically $100 a set also. Thats the price for good caps. Butler Creek break. Vortex are cheaply made and break too
