This was my experience with starline 357 about a month ago, back order one day and here the following week, about same quantity and price I'm thinking. Their back order system is better than most peoples normal shipping system.I just received a couple of weeks ago 500 pieces of .357 brass from Starline. I paid 100 dollars for 500 pieces shipped or 20 cents each. Also if their site says "backorder" like it did when I ordered it may still be soon before your order arrives. I ordered on a Monday and they were here on a Friday.
I ordered 1000 357 Mag cases from Starline last weekend. They said backorder and were taking orders. They have shipped and I should have them on Monday or Tuesday.
1000 @ $167.50 = less than 17 cents per - not too bad in my book.
Unless you're prone to losing revolver brass those 1,000 cases will last you forever.

For the life of me, I can’t remember what it used to cost which gives me a basis for what I should pay for it in these inflationary times. Is 45 cents a round new brass high? I think it is but maybe not?

I shoot a pretty heavy crimp in 38 and 357, I seem to get a lot more mid case splits than anything else. In lever guns it appears the chamber clearances kill cases faster than anything I can do loading. I loose them the same way in pistol but the fact they are shot mostly in levers the last firing in a pistol and then mid case failure is just where they finally fail.Actually a 1,000 pieces of brass won't last forever. The reason I just purchased another 500 is because the original 1,500 cases I already had have been taking heavy losses due to split cases. Fortunately my shooting is 98% moderate loads with the appropriate amount of crimp.

I agree, 45¢ a piece is about double the price it should be today.45 cents for new brass is high, more than double what you can get it for from Starline when it's available for order direct on their website.
If you're not desperate for brass now just wait and check the Starline website every day until it shows up again. Lately .357 Mag has been maybe once a month available again for backorder. Just check frequently and jump on it when it's there. Backorders on popular cartridges usually ship inside of 2 weeks.
