I need to get out shooting

I have been using reloading as my destress/therapy meditation.
The other day I was distressed to discover I am running short of .45acp cases. I didn’t understand because I know I bought a crap ton of cases a couple times in the last year.
In trying to figure it out I looked and I have over 5500 .45acp loaded and ready in the cabinet. This is in addition to 3500 9mm and 200 .300wm.
I am getting ready to start loading .25acp (that’s a whole ‘nother thread) so I’ll have some meditation I can still do.
I can go all summer without touching the loading bench, dammit.
Does anyone else lose track and basically end up hoarding ammo?

Not me. I generally don’t have that much brass. I have 900 ish pieces of 44 special and 500 pieces of 44 magnum. I normally only have 200-300 loaded at once. I guess the problem is I’m never satisfied with a load. Always testing a new variation in either bullet or powder charge.

Maybe 1000 pieces each of 38 and 357 magnum and just that many primers for those. But I don’t shoot that much either.

I have 200 30-30 cases I load in batches of 50. At current I have none loaded, but I often do have 3 batches loaded. Plus I have another 100 or so to use for a batch.

Course, loading everything on a single stage press is a bit slower.

I have a ton loaded too. I always load range pickups as well as what i shot. I had to move my ammo cans to another area. I feel i had to much weight in my man cave. Im going to the range soon. To see how my mini 14 does with the new bushing.

Yes. I have a 2-door Steelcase cabinet I keep loading supplies and ammo in. I also have two large ammo crates and two small ammo crates. I forgot about the six 50-cal cans and eight 30-cal cans full of ammo until we had that roof collapse and I started finding full cans I had thought were empty. I’m forgetful and I guess just basically a hoarder so I end up with stuff I forgot I had. Then I think maybe I’m low on stuff and buy more stuff. It’’s a vicious cycle.
My most recent find is several cardboard boxes with 12ga and 16ga. reloads my Uncle Charlie gave me when I was probably 17 or so when I went pheasant hunting the first time. I have about 500 pounds of various shotgun ammo, from 12-to-28ga. The only thing I’m actually short on is .410ga. Maybe. Who knows what’s hidden in the shed that I forgot all about?

EDIT: And, I just remembered the shelf above the defunct water heater in the storage room closet. I think I put some stuff - powder and primers, maybe? - up there after we disconnected the heater. I need to go look. They didn’t replace that section of roof so should be good and dry, if I did put stuff up there.

I wish I had that problem. I have less than 50 rounds of .357 Magnum ammo loaded because I haven't been able to squeeze in some loading time. Unfortunately, that also means I haven't been able to squeeze in any shooting time, either.

I like to load... so sometimes I get carried away. I also like to shoot... but what usually jams me up is... I don't like case prep. So, after I've loaded and blasted off all my .308, for example, I have to pop the brakes and *sigh* do some case prep, first, before I can load... :(

I actually made a half-hearted commitment last year... to NOT load any ammos that I did not need for an immediate task (say, working up a ladder for my Savage bolt gun...) and completely prep ALL my brass on hand. I'm doing pretty well... I sized all my 5.56mm, sized and trimmed all my .308 and .30-30, I'm working on the 6.5CM right now. I prepped all my .348 and .45-70 brass. I prepped all the .41MAG brass I have empty... but I'm committed to NOT load any more .41 until I shoot... and then prep the brass... I already have loaded.

Ok I'll bite.
Now you got me curious.
Go check.....hurry I want to know
What does the water heater closet contain.....

Guess I am a lot different than most on here. I usually spend the cold winter months cozied up to the heater doing all my yearly brass prep. This is made particularly easy if you have been collecting brass for years and have amassed a bunch of it. Then I load up just enough ammo ahead for each firearm to go to the range for a session. Then as I go and use it up I dip into my processed brass supply and all I have to do is prime and load away to replenish for the next trip. It keeps me busy all the long cold winter months and that time seems to fly swiftly by.

I have a plan so that doesn’t happen, but the plan isn’t working out so well.

My “loaded ammo” shelves are sagging.

My sized/trimmed containers aren’t where I want them.

Tells me I’m not shooting enough.

Worst if all, I don’t have enough skeet loads to handle 2 skeet nights. That’ll probably be my 1st priority when I get through tying flies, hopefully in the next week of 2.

Well I always heard "birds of a feather", so I guess I'm part of the wayward flock.

Over the years, as I moved from one caliber to the next, I picked up both new and once fired(?) brass to load. I usually made an effort to get at least 1K for each. Some a bit more when getting a MFRB full. I, like others, have a particular load I'm fond of. My problems started when I began casting and found a whole nuther matrix of rabbit holes to go down.

A while back I set out to pour up at least 20# of the most used bullets for target and hunting. I found that some of the small boxes we got in at work were perfect for this. Just fill the box and move on. Well things were good for a while, then I guess I forgot where I started and have since, while doing some spelunking in tha cave, found I have several boxes in calibers full, ready to size, lube, and load.

This isn't terrible, as I also found a couple of MFRB's of 9, 38, and 45 brass that just need separated by headstamp, and it's ready to load. I just hate the thought of sitting down and staring through the looking glass at all those cases 1 x 1...
