Glock 36? Enlighten Me

The 36 is a great option.

It’s light of weight, handy, and easily concealable in a pocket or on the belt. It packs more than enough rounds for the purpose of civilian self defense, and the .45 ACP is far and away more lethal than the other calibers.

I've owned a Glock 36 and while I liked it it fit my hand well shot too. I know you didn't ask but I think the original poster is limited to a 10 round magazine capacity in their state. If that's the case,OP have you considered a Glock 30S? It's a Glock 30 SF or short frame with a thinner Glock 36 slide. If not maybe check it out.

To answer your original question though yes I owned a Glock 36 it was years ago but while I did like it and it was a realizable gun as other have said it's a large gun in my opinion the same size as a Glock 19. I was recently in the market for a sub compact 45acp and I chose a kahr arms PM45 and I'm very happy with this gun. It's the Thursday one I've owned and it's a lot smaller than the Glock 36 it's shorter in the slide and grip and only 1 inch wide it weighs 20 ouches loaded with 5+1 of 45acp.

I know some don't like kahr arms their trigger is a long double action only. Totally different animal than the Glock 36 but in my opinion a better gun for it's intended purpose. I've owned and carried almost every gun and came back to the kahr PM45 my current one and my other two have been 100% reliable. I realized my mistake on selling my last two because it's so small light and thin and it's a 45acp.

Also have you considered the Springfield XDS45 as a carry gun? It also smaller than the Glock 36 and a similar type trigger I think. I hope this helps.

@megatronrules We do not have a capacity restriction in Wisconsin. The G36 just looked interesting with the single stack magazine. I knew that @EMC45 has one from mentioning it in a previous post, and that he liked the thinner grip.

I did own a 1st generation XDS 45acp. I would buy another one!

I’d rather a 6 shooter in .45 like the G36 vs a 10 rounder 9mm.

The .45 will stop the fight considerably faster.

You've now made two statements and yet haven't provided a basis for them when requested. Are these opinions based on personal experience?
If you persist in not responding, I can only believed that you are trolling this thread

Based on published FBI statistics, the first statement isn't even close to being true. Their statistics are based on the number of deaths caused by various caliber guns.

Based on handgun use by LE, in violent encounters, the second statement isn't true

I understand.

I've never been a fan of "caliber wars" so to speak. I will say that I've carried and used all the common handgun rounds, and I feel like this. All handguns are underpowered and a compromise in portability.

Having said that I do prefer the 45acp and the 357 magnum over others. I had and carried a kahr PM9 which I sold to finance my purchase of my current EDC a kahr PM45. My personal reasons for doing this where simply that I prefer 45axp and the kahr PM45 is such a small lightweight and thin gun being scarcity bigger than the kahr PM9. My PM9 with it's 7rd extended mag in it had the same length grip as my PM45 with a 5rd flush fit mag in it.

If someone shoots a 9mm or 40S&W better than a gun chambered in 45acp then they're better off with that gun. A 9mm or 380 in the chest is better than a 45 in the shoulder. I'm a firm believer in rule number one is have a gun. Also there is plenty of data and statistics to show that modern ammunition has significantly closed the gap in the performance between the service calibers.

I also believe that those same advancements that have made the 380 and 9mm better have also made the large bore calibers like the 40S&W and 45ACP better as well. Bottom line here is carry And use the gun and caliber combination that you shoot best and are comfortable with.

The statistics show most of us will never need to use our carry guns in self defense and I think that's a good thing myself. Just prepare and pray you never need it,but be vigilant and have it with you at all times.

I feel better with a 44 or 45 on my belt or in my pocket. That part might not be rational, but it's true. :)

I read “with a 44 or 45 on my belt than in my pocket. I was going to agree, but then I read it correctly. It’s hard to fit a .44 or a .45 in the pocket :)

Im fine with any of the service calibers myself.

The 44 Bulldog was always in my overalls pocket back when I had to wear them. My 45acp Pit Bull is the same size. Recently got a Kahr CM45 that will also fit in a pocket.

Even if it wasn't any more effective than having a 38 in my pocket, the big fat bullets of the 44 were reassuring. When I shoot pieces of wood or old appliances or whatever, the fat bullets seems to do more damage. If it boosts my confidence, it's a good thing. :)

Whether 6 or 7 rounds in your 'clip' is sufficient depends on so many things, so I'm not going there. I never liked the 36 due to its grip and wacky 'clip' shape. Too bad the 45 GAP never took off - oops!

It's demise was assured once guns like the Kahr .45 compact, XD Compact, etc. started coming out. I looked at all the available options back in 2010, just before WI started CCW, and went with the Taurus PT145 out of financial considerations. It's been a reliable gun, carried it for several years, alternating with a 1911 and a snub .38. I've since gone to 9mm, first a Taurus G2c, then the Gx4 I currently carry, as well as a TCP 738 that rides in my pocket sometimes. The PT145 is now a car gun.

I dont know if it's been mentioned , but the 36 is the only centerfire gun that I remember Glock having problems with. Some say it was people limp wristing it , some say it was magazines , some said that Glock sent them back a whole new gun because it was all out of specifications , and so on.

I've had a few extraction caused feed jams over the years with my 36 when shooting ball practice ammo. This has happened to me near the end of a shooting session while firing weak hand only and my weak hand grip has "tired". I can't recall it ever happening with my strong hand or firing two handed.

I try to go shooting defensive handguns whether I feel fully energized or I feel weaker than normal. I can't predict if I'll feel strong or diminished when a defensive situation presents itself.

I can't remember ever seeing a Glock 36, but I like it. Well at least what I have seen on YouTube and the internet.
Glock 36 owners is this 45acp a must have?

Well...

At 27 oz. loaded 6+1 with 230 gr. JHP?

IMG-20211101-072004564-crop-50.jpg

It is simply an outstanding EDC/IWB pistol.

Have done the following mods:
- Removed the guard horn.
- Stoned the sharp extractor LCI.
- Flattened(sanded) the back-strap palm swell.
- Raised/enlarged(sanded) the finger grooves.

The 3.8" barrel, with 230 gr. +P ammo, produces service length barrel/std. pressure ammo performance.

And it is every bit as precise and reliable as my other Glocks, as in very, and 100%.

And, no, they are not the same size and weight as either a Glock G30 or G19/23:

G36 v. G30

G19/23 v. G36 (w/ Pierce mag extension)

As for .45 ACP v. 9mm?

Dwell time to stop - is never calculated.
(except by the team that selected the .45 ACP as the std. military cartridge in the first place)

Very close,I can deal with .20 in grip difference for extra capacity.

It’s fairly significant, to me, between a 30 and a 19 and the 36 is thinner still, so that’s a pretty big change.

It’s also 4 rounds, which is also not insignificant at all. Though, I didn’t +1 my mags when I had a 30, when I did loading that full mag dented the rim of my top round and super annoyed the reloader in me
