My dad told me today that there is some buying club you can join at AAFES to get AMMO with 5 bucks free for every 20 bucks spent. WHAT A TEASE!!! I can't find any info on it.
I have never seen ammo at aafes as a kid or when I was in the reserves, though I didn't look for it specifically.

None on my base. I heard some AAFES sells guns though, maybe one of those will have it. The guys from Barksdale in Shreveport LA near Dallas TX talk about buying guns at the BX.

None on my base either. The only place I knew of was Naval Support Activity, Taipei, Taiwan. My wife got me a Colt New Frontier (1972). I needed special permission. Of all the places I was stationed over 20 years that was the only place I remember having weapons/ammo.

Outdoor Rec sells guns and ammo on Fort Lewis in Washington.
Last time I was in the Marine Corps Exchange on Camp Pendleton, CA they were selling ammo. I can't remember if they had guns or not.
Ammo is also available at the Rod & Gun Clubs on Vandenberg and Beale AFBs.

"Guns and ammo at MCAS Yuma exchange. I have never seen even a bottle of hoppes or any other gun related item at an Air Force exchange."

Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, Florida has a pretty nice little gunshop. My Dad was Air Force but of course I lost my ID card when I graduated college.
I went over there with an old friend who is retired AF. They had Glocks, S&Ws etc. Even had a small selection of ARs and defense shotguns. It's located in a corner of the lawn and garden dept.
They even had a supply of Glock 33 round 9mm mags. (two less after I left)

The Exchange and Special Services/Recreation at Malmstrom AFB doesn't have anything and local regs prohibit it and firearms. They do book guides for hunts though and there is an archery hunting club and range on base. I bought guns and ammo thru the ships store when we were outside Conus back in the 60s and 70s. NEX in Sasebo carried arms and ammo and booked bird and bear hunts on the northern island of Hokaido when I was homeported in Sasebo in 69-70.

AAFES in Alaska had guns, ammo, and reloading components for sale when I was stationed there. That's been (cough, cough) 21 years, though...
I've been here at Elmendorf AFB Alaska since 1984 . . . yep . . . AAFES still sells guns & ammo & accessories. A few months back I bought a Para 14-45 there, and I'm looking at a nice S&W there now. They finally got some 45 ACP in the other day - Magtech for $19.50 a box which is the cheepest I've been able to find ammo anywhere in town. They don't have a lot of reloading stuff though . . . just a few dies. I think they would special order stuff, if I requested it . . . .

I spoke with the CMSgt in AAFES leadership this summer. More of the stores will carry guns and ammo. Some do already but I was very pleased to hear that Mountain Home AFB in Idaho will. I expect a Walmart style of stock. I also expect as usual with AAFES it will be more of a pain to fill out the 4473 than it can be at Walmart.

Marine Corps Exchange at Camp Elmore in Norfolk has a good selection, and isn't far from the range.
Many smiles from the old sports store at Ft. Wainwright!
I left Germany five years ago when we still had Rod and Gun Clubs, am unsure, but think only Heidelberg is still open. Got some great deals at Kitzingen before they closed!

I visited a buddy of mine in 1988 who was stationed at Rhein Mein at Frankfort. My gosh what deals the rod and gun club had. Prices on Puma knives were dirt cheap ($70 for a White Hunter) and CZ 75s (before they were imported into this country) were $190 !

Glad to hear this, maybe things will change for the better. Recent visits to Hill AFB, UT and F.E. Warren in Cheyenne revealed absolutely NO gun related merchandise.

Well, I forced dad to pony up with the goods. His STAR card statement had an insert to join THE SPORTSMAN's Guide!!!! I was bummed out. NO big deal. ON the plus side, I hope that AAFES does start carrying more gun stuff as above posters mentioned.

I priced my new G20SF there, they wanted $150 more than my local shop to special order one. The few handguns in the case are priced pretty high too. Their ammo prices are pretty good, and they have been getting primers back in stock after a long dry spell.
