I like the older version, the 710, and the last 2 years they were made, they upgraded the bolt/receiver parts, plus the stock was excellently made, for painting. the 770's though... I am thinking of warm throw up... a little...
in my mouth...
the mossberg 4x4, is a much better choice- there is an excellent pic in my newest hunting mag, with a dude, who is using a 4x4, with a synth stock, with the salt and pepper laminate look to it. it has the cut out part in the buttstock; it is in 300 winmag, and the rifle weighs about 6.7 pounds total, with scope. He is posing on a mountainside, with a big white sheep he just poked. The salt/pepper laminate look makes it blend in to the background, very well. So are the choices listed above, I would also look at the new t/c offering, and the smith/wesson I bolt. The marlins seem to be heavily favored for an entry level rifle right now, and if you can spend up to about 300 or 350 on a new rifle, i would really look at the entry level Wetherby's... double tough to beat with their features.
