I shot my ak then I cleaned it. I notice there was 4 lines of "rust" color caked on my barrel. I ran cleaner on it did not come off.. I placed brass brush and it finally came off. I do not know how far it started but I could see down the barrel a ways it was on there in a 4 line spin. I do not know if it was just the copper caked on from shooting? I cleaned it and its all gone.:confused:

Just before I went to shoot I looked in my barrel there was no "rust" color in it.

Most AKs have 4-groove rifling. I'm guessing you were seeing copper or other fouling where the lands and grooves meet.

It's not totally clear from your description where you saw this "rust," so if it wasn't inside the barrel, please explain further.

copper almost for sure. also, ive found some of the steel cased ammo will leave this for some reason.

Fourthed. Copper fouling. Rust will come back in hours if not properly oiled. Trust me on this. :banghead:

6th. Copper.

Had the same type of thing with my Mosin. Filled the barrel with cleaner and a bunch of brown rustish looking gunk came out. At first I was worried, but after soaking the barrel for a while and giving it a good scrubbing/swabbing, no more gunk came out and it looked perfect inside. Well...as perfect as an old Mosin can anyway :p
