I'm thinking of buying a Judge with a 3" chamber,SS.I'm looking for some input on barrel length,3"vs 6 1/2".I'm looking for input from people that have shot both.curious about accuracy,handling,loudness,recoil,etc.thanks.

not trying to be arrogant or anything like that but try using the search. there are alot of threads about the judge. some love it some say it is a niche gun and not suitable for self defense. alot say it performs poorly using the .410 load past 10-15 ft and most agree that a dedicated 45lc has better accuracy. i'm intrigued myself by the judge and most say it is very fun to shoot.

the first judge i shot was the 6 in version. I can't tell you how accurate it is vs my 3" version. My 3 inch version is pretty accurate with 45 long colt. Good enough for casual target shooting and plenty good enough for social work. Both guns recoil about the same. I think the long 6" barrel would keep me from carrying it more. I do carry my judge when I'm wearing a jacket and it's a nice size with a great trigger.

My 3"X3" model is fine with shotshells, especially around 5 yards, nice and tight pattern. My favorite HD load is 3" lead BB, 35 or so pellets that will cover a 12" circle at 5 yards and have decent penetration.

Slugs suck, don't waste time or money on them.

.45 Colt is superb, out to 25 yards I can keep all 5 inside 5".

Yep, plenty loud, but recoil is no problem as this pistol is plenty heavy.

I don't think I would enjoy the 6" barrel as much, It's a long gun already.

Gobs of fun to shoot and does all I hoped and then some.

3 inch will be plenty

Good luck on finding a 3 in chamber in -any- finish, much less SS. As an FFL I've had that on my "wish list" at three different distributors for .. oh, 4 - 6 months.

Wife finally got her 3x3 Judge, took several months, she loves it and I am impressed with shot pattern. Out to 30 feet #4 shot still kicks pop cans around with authority.

Federal now makes a special four pellet 2.5" 000 buckshot load for the Judge, hoping they come out with a 3" 6 pellet 000 load.

If Mo won't go to the mountain then the mountain's coming here. Just cause the guy did not get that last memo is no reason to dump on a guy.

Oh, yes. There are links within the link to look at.

This should give you some idea as to the Judge as well as what others here have said.
Or there is

Or go on over to www.taurusarmed.net at the Judge and Other Taurus revolvers board and ask around about the Judge. They'll give you the straight story.

Even do a search there if you want to.

This is just for another source for you to use.
Unfortuantely Taurus Talk at MSN went out of business due to MSN not wanting them.

At thirty feet, #4 shot from a 3" Judge barrel has about a 30" pattern. Glad your wife's having fun knocking down pop cans with this, but don't overestimate what's going on here.

Since 95%+ of SD shootings happen at 10' or less, what the Judge does at 3X that distance isn't really relevant to it's intended use; point self defense. At that, it does a right nice job, with a lot of flexibility as to what you want to do it with. The fact that the "damage potential" of #4 shot dissipates rather quickly with distance is to me,a plus, not a minus. I'd much rather have #4 shot pellets skipping through the neighborhood than a 9mm JPH from a miss.

But ... to each their own.

does the judge really sell that well that they need to make 20 versions of it?

Taurus is releasing a full sized heavy duty revolver that will shoot 45lc, 454 & 410. Saw it on one of the SHOT SHOW threads.
