Hello guys, and I must say looking around this forum looks great!

For my Virgin Post on THR, I'd like to discuss what optics to put on my New bolt action rifle. I just ordered a new Savage 10fp for $550 :)

The purposes of this rifle would be competing against my friends in the 250-600 Yard range. So what kind of optics would you guys suggest? Lets be reasonable on price..

My first thought was this:http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true

Thanks

I don't think you can really go wrong with a Leupold. What magnification are you looking at? 3-9 or 4-12?

You must know someone with some land, no other places to shoot out to 600 yards around Manhattan.

Welcome to THR, neighbor!

At that price range you could also look at Bushnell 4200 3-9-40 for about $240. Nikon's got a few around $200.

Welcome to THR!

I too am a fan of the 3200 and Nikon, but you can't go wrong. Make sure you post some pics when you get out to the range. :)

At those ranges I would get something with an adjustable objective. I don't have one, but people around here have said good things to say about Sightron.

Yeah tell me about it! There are ZERO ranges around here.

And yes I went to high school around this area, and quite a few of my buddies lived on farms with a lot of acres :)

I was planning on going with the 3-9 with long range duplex. does anyone know what the "QDMA" is about?

You may want to re-rhink your choice is scopes for the distance you are talking about. Check this one out not terribly priced but clear and with mildots. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...parentType=index&indexId=cat601564&hasJS=true I have three of the Leupold rifleman scopes the 3-9x50's. Really pretty decent but at longer ranges the optics are not very clear. Something with a A/O will help. The Elite series by Bushnell are great scopes for the money.

Cabelas has a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm for 399.99 & that's about as low as you'll see the variable power Conquests.

Welcome to THR!:)

I'll also recommend the Bushnell 3200 line, I really like my 5-15x40 with AO. The Bushnell scopes are make in Japan, with great glass for the money. You'll like the 10FP! Mines been an impressive shooter.

Welcome to the forums!

You might want to consider buying a used Leupold on the forums. Just post a WTB and your specs, and watch the opportunities arise:D.

QDMA
QDMA=Quality Deer Management Association

From Leupold's site:
Leupold will donate a portion of each sale to help further the group's efforts.
